My Strava info from today, two new pr's and moved up the leader board a couple spots on one of the climbs. Average power 196 watts, normalized power 259 watts.

Agreed.

I "care" about my rankings in so far that I want to keep moving up the ladder, going faster, and doing better. But it makes no difference to me if I am 1st, 4th, or 200th. There is *always* somebody faster out there.

That's how I look at it as well. One of the "nice," grounding things of living/riding in a cycling mecha of CO is that there are sooooo many pros and elites posting Strava results that KOM aspirations are a total joke for most of us. I'm more than content seeing PRs and small shifts in my ranking.

Nice. I'm going to force myself off the computer and work to crank out a similar ride just now. It has been over a week due to work which is killing me. I will not feel guilty, I will not feel guilty...

Word. I enjoy it while it lasts.

This morning's jaunt.

After 3 weeks of chasing a creak, I finally had it licked and was looking forward to this morning's group ride. Ten miles in my rear tire explosively flats, blowing an 1 1/2" (or 38mm for those Imperially challenged) gash in the side wall. Call of shame, wife picked me up, and I headed off on the fixed gear to meet the group on the return ride. Any and all possible glory was pissed away for the day. Now I have to spread mulch. Or multch. I'm not sure. Haarrrumpffff

45+ race in Branchbrook Park, Newark today. So I have a little trouble clipping into my pedals as we roll out, and when I look up, sure enough, the peloton is stretched out in a 30 mph AARP Train as far as the I can see. God help me. So I put my head down and suffer to hang on for two laps as they eventually get it out of their system, then the race settled in. A 7 man break went off, my team mate Chris was up there, unfortunately he crashed a half mile from the finish on the last turn (don't ask me how these guys manage that in a small pace line on a relatively non-techncial sweeping turn, but the guys in front of Chris went down and he couldn't avoid them). No bad injuries or damage, he was understandably pretty crushed that he got taken out of a race where he had guaranteed himself a good result. Oh well.

As for me, didn't get shelled, only got to the front once or twice, those 45+ kids are faster than me and the peloton was angry today my friend. I figure if my last race had me ahead of 150+ (45+) guys in the rankings, this should move me in front of another 200. That Branchbrook course is a crash waiting to happen for a couple of reasons, but today's mishaps in our race (two crashes) seemed to be caused by lapses in rider attention, not the course. At least they paved it, very smooth course now, that was great.

See the member formerly known as coasting for a recommendation on platform pedals.

Platform pedals would be frowned upon in the Road Nazi Community. What do you mean 'formerly known as' coasting? What's he known as now?

My Santa is less fancy. Still stoked, though. Ye olde 105 derailer had got so worn out it was flopping all over the place.

He might have changed his name. Or he might be dead.

The stupid poser factor in amateur racing is so over the top, so incredibly self-absorbed and imbecilic, that you have to experience it to believe it. Or just go over to the 33 and read through a few pages on some of the threads.

Sure the 41 is stupid when it comes to cycling, but the 33 stupid is far deeper and more profound.

Let's face it, from Fred to amateur racer, cycling brings out the stupid in humanity in ways nothing else can.

:roflmao2: Congrats on not getting shelled or sent to the ground!

AARP.... Choo-chooo!!!

The 45+ today had more pre-registrants than any other race. So 45+ fields today are larger - and I'm quite confident they are also faster - than they have been in the past. More participants. Gary, my team mate (gsteinb on BF) just upgraded to Cat 1, and he's leading in that NJ Maxxis 45+ cup race series. The guys driving that 45+ train tend to be very good Cat 2s with the occasional 1.

From what I've seen, guitars can't be far behind.
