in all honesty, I feel amazing about 3% of the time, when everything just comes together.

Even when my legs are screaming and my lungs feel like the depths of hell... it's awesome. Riding is usually the best part of my day.

Pick some faster friends to ride with. Gotta get those reality checks along with fewer occasions of awesome.

I have been trying to figure out a good workout/ride routine that creates that 'super awesome' ride and feeling so I can get it to happen on the big rides. As of right now I think for me I suffer really hard doing different interval sets and recovery rides for 2 weeks solid, by the end of the second week I feel terrible, it hurts from the start to finish. Then I do two very easy recovery rides at the beginning of the week (I mean super easy and I'm the worst person at letting someone pass me) followed by a short but brisk ride usually 20-25 miles. Then I take the next two days off, I focus on hydration and get good sleep. The next ride is the awesome ride. This has just been my experience and each time I follow this routine, the 'awesome' ride gets better and I am stronger for it.

A few weeks ago on my commute home I happened to end up behind a local racer and I managed to stay on pace behind him for about 5 miles (before he turned off to go a different way). When I got home Strava told me I was #2 overall on that segment (which is mostly commuters), but the time was a good 2 mins better than my previous best. Amazing what you can do with a little motivation. Felt awesomely good. Also, coincidentally, I was wearing my hard soled MTB shoes instead of my commuter SPD-compatible soft shoes for the first time in months - that may have also had some effect.
Yepppppppppp.

Really only a few times a year. I feel really good about 10% of the time. Pretty good about 50%. And the rest goes from just ok to blah.

Maybe 1 in 10 rides. If I'm feeling like the brakes are dragging and my legs are made of lead for three rides in a row, I take several days off the bike (3-4). I usually return with a "truck load of awesome".

I ride every mornig at 5am, I ride to work, I ride the beater to go shopping and take my kids places, I ride in the weekends, and every single time I feel great. There is no such thing as a bad day on bike.

Sometimes I"ll 'taper' for an event and actually get it right. The rest of the time I just feel good. Of course I'm using the term 'taper' very loosely, since I mostly follow the Joe Parkins school of thought regarding training - about as scientific as throwing spaghetti at a wall to see if it's done.

Lately, I feel all kinds of awesome. Brought my Ritchey Breakaway with me on my latest work trip, and putting in 20 mile rides makes the whole day go better, and having my own bike here is just true happiness.
So yeah, I can't quit grinning on my rides.

Never,
Unless I am riding through really tight traffic. Then when the adrenaline rush is done I go back to my self loathing.

But I rarely feel really tired at the end of a ride either.

I usually feel awesome every 1st and 2nd ride of the week... by the third or fourth, not so awesome. On this 22 mile ride I felt pretty awesome as I was able to maintain my pace in the 21-22mph range for the beginning portion of the ride. I'm usually at the 17-18mph range so this was a definite improvement. On the way back, not so fast due to Coronado head and crosswinds, but still an awesome ride. Just plan to keep riding and becoming more awesome, I guess. LOL

I try to ride 3 or 4 days a week. Doesn't always happen with my schedule, but I try. seems like as of lately I have felt so tired and glad I'm done when I finish. Yesterday I went on a ride with some friends and I felt AMAZING the entire ride. KILLED every hill and sprinted off when I reached the top and pulled on the flats. We got done and all i wanted to do was keep going. (though I had to be home at a specific time frame)
How often do you ride and feel great at the end of a ride as apposed to feeling really tired?

Any day that I don't get to ride, I feel crappy.
I think I may be addicted!

Seriously awesome? That would be pretty rare for me. I enjoy most of my rides, but awesome doesn't come around very often -- maybe a few times per year.
When I think of personal adjectives, the one that comes to my mind is "special." As in, "My mother says I'm special."

Bicycle Repair Man !!!
After being in a place where I thought I would never be able to ride a bicycle again there is not a moment that I ride a bicycle that is not the best thing ever.

Actually, I have cold now and hasn't been able to ride for 3 days... It's frustrating and agonizing. Any ride right now would be awesome but I must restrain...
