Cassette wobble
I flipped my bike over today to clean it up and when I rotated the crank then let the wheel coast I noticed there was a slight wobble in the cassette. Is this normal? Dangerous? I have Shimano RX-100 components. Any adjustments to be made?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Not normal. Most likely, your lockring is loose. You need to correct this.

I've seen this on quite a few freewheel cassettes, and even on a couple freehub cassettes. The wobble is usually very slight, and doesn't impact shifting...at least I haven't seen it cause any problems.

Anywho, Thanks for the suggestions. I'll take a closer look at the rear hub.

What has not been said yet is that adjusting the cassette lockring does require a special tool, one that is basically specific to the brand and vintage of cassette that you have. If you're never going to take the cassette off, then there's really no point to buying the tool. If you want to take the cassette off at some point (sure makes cleaning it easier...), then it's probably worth buying the tool.
At any rate, I agree that visible cassette wobble is a bad thing. Take the rear wheel off, head to the LBS, either buy the tool or have them spend five seconds with a wrench and see if the wobble goes away.
