Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I have a quadruple most of my hill climbing is done in the 32 32 but it has a 24 32 also, the chain last longer on the big rings and when the front and rear gears are aligned.

I can't imagine any climb in the Portland area that requires a 32/32. Where are you riding?

Is there really such a thing as a quadruple?

Maybe he's been up Logie Trail off of Helvettia outside of Hillsboro/North Plains......

I've looked at it a couple of times, and decided I prefer to keep my lunch down. I'm going to have to become a much better climber before I give Logie a try. Maybe once I can get up Jackson Quarry without being in 42/23-25, I only save my granny for Mason Hill- but I'm working on breaking the "triple addiction".

Sure there quadruples I took a good suntour crank with 74 110 bolt circle sizes. The 24 and 32 fit on the 74 circle with the addition of 5 spacers. The others are 40 and 48. The front shifter is a gripshift with 8 positions. When the romp family rode there four seater bike accross the united states they had a 20 tooth inner on a micro adapter bolted to the 74 bolt circle and a 34 44 54 bolted on the 110 bolt circle with 5 spacers and longer bolts just like the old suntour maxy did. I saw a TA quad somewhere maybe on that classic bike parts site. If you live in portland clime the hill comming out of cathedral park I broke a chain on that one.
