What is your favorite kind of ride?
Cycling is all about rule #62: so what is your favorite way to get outside and enjoy the ride?
Personally I enjoy late night rides by myself. It's more peaceful with less traffic on the weekends. What kind of rides do you guys enjoy the most?
Rule #62// You shall not ride with earphones.
Cycling is about getting outside and into the elements and you don’t need to be listening to Queen or Slayer in order to experience that. Immerse yourself in the rhythm and pain, not in whatever 80′s hair band you call “music”. See Rule #5 and ride your bike.[SUP]8[/SUP]

I prefer to ride by myself and generally like to wander so I can find more routes around home.
I do group rides though and there are a few I really do enjoy mostly because the people that ride them are nice to talk to, but my preference is to ride alone.

Today. 4 hours, hilly back roads, 4-8 like minded guys, handful of cars & stop signs...

I also prefer to ride alone. I enjoy being in the country, riding through hollows and valleys, then climbing out of them to go on to the next hollow. It's a great way to clear my head, enjoy the beauty of the land around me, and be grateful that I get to do this whenever I like.
Another ride I like to do is exploring the city; checking out neighborhoods I never knew existed. I often do these rides on my SS/FG.
Riding on Sundays with my wife, just talking about everything and nothing, that's good, too.

Like most here I prefer to ride alone. The best solo rides for me are ones where I am going someplace new or riding a route that I know well but riding it farther out so that some of it is new.

Saturday morning, wife just got back from her run and has no plans for the day which mean she can take care of the baby indefinitely. Solo ride on hilly but not mountainous roads, about 2-3 hours, with a temp in the high 60s

Ive ridden alone for years. After recently joining a club, I realize I much prefer riding in a group. A minimum few to a dozen or more - they each have their merits, but most importantly, riding in a group on open roadways is always much safer than going solo. I guess I'm a social creature as well. I prefer cooler days - no more than 70 degree temps, and 50 to 60 miles or so. And the bike? Titanium, of course. Ahh, nirvana...

I ride alone too, more because of my timing (I am a late riser, and mostly like to ride in the afternoons), my slowness (most riders around here are much stronger and faster, and drop me like a bad date), and not knowing many other similar riders. Not that I'm complaining - I do enjoy the solo ride - I can go anywhere, stop anywhere, turn anywhere, go any pace I want, explore new roads, always in charge of my own destiny, with a peace and quiet where I can get lost in my own thoughts. Lovely!
That said, I really do enjoy the large organized group ride. It's fun to go off with hundreds (or thousands) or people, ride closed roads, roll straight through closed intersections, and challenge yourself to go the distance. Plus, you can always find a small group (8-10 riders) who ride at a similar pace, to cruise together and sharing the pulling, so you can go faster and easier, and have some people to enjoy the ride with.
I like to ride mountain climbs, we have some beautiful climbs and passes near where I live.
I used to love riding really late at night - like 3am - as it was always tranquil, peaceful, relaxing. I don't do that anymore - I am not sure it is really safe around here, as there are no street lights on any of the main riding stretches I enjoy.

Group/club rides with 6-12 riders, ideally most are as strong or slightly stronger than me. Distance 60-80 miles with a 3 minute rest/fill bottle stop slightly more than halfway. Varied terrain with some sections flat, some rollers, and a few tough climbs.
Temperature would be 65 degrees, low humidity, and partial cloud-cover.
p.s. no chipseal

I love hard rides in the rollers and hills, but am coming to like rides through the farm country more and more. I get to ride in North Alabama once a month or so on my road trips, and the rest of the time in the farmlands of Western Oregon. I love watching the crops planted, growing, and harvested in the different cycles of the year, the scenery is always changing. Just gotta watch out for the equipment on the roads!

Low auto traffic, lots of climbing, 5-10 people, 4 hour ride, with lunch afterwards.

For those of us that grew up rural and now live rurally, riding in the country is nice, but it's the norm. If your reasoning behind "no earbuds" is to enjoy the country, it applies less when you live, work, hunt and fish in the country all the time.
So give me an early morning solo century with earbuds. After that ride, it always feels like you've accomplished more than most folks will do all day, and anything else you do that day is just a bonus.

Sunny, temps in the mid 50s, some rollers, some hills, some flats, a few nice descents, scenery, and beer with good like-minded friends in the end.
