Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I wear these because I am a huge dork. https://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg

When it gets too cold I switch to some goatskin farm gloves..

Half finger. My current preferred gloves are a pair of Specialized BG's with a fair amount of gel padding. Planning on getting a pair of Spenco Classic gloves soon. I'm partial to the traditional looking crochet backed gloves, but there aren't that many made any more.

Im curious who is using no padding gloves, with no padding bar tape...

sometimes the introduction of padding only makes thing less comfortable as it prevents your body from using its limbs the way nature designed.

I often tend to agree with the "let my body do it the way it was designed". But then again... nature didn't design the bicycle... I don't think we were "designed" to ride bikes Personally, padding(but not gel)!

Padded bar tape is not a problem for me but in my experience padded gloves tend to bunch up in wrong places for my hands.

I have a minor injury from about 7 years ago in my ulnar nerve area. Prolonged rides trigger numbness in my right hand in that area. It goes away after I'm done riding, but obviously I need to do what I can to avoid it.

I prefer gloves with no padding at all. Just thin leather in the palms. Padding makes my hads fall asleep almost instantly.

I've been using the Giro LTZ gloves for about a year https://www.bikebling.com/Giro-LTZ-Gl...ltz-gloves.htm

But bought a pair of these Castelli's yesterday https://www.bikebling.com/Castelli-S-...-tre-glove.htm

In the winter I use a full-finger maintenance glove that I got at Home Depot similar to these https://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1...kuId=202892906

No gloves. Ever.

I use Fizik tape and prefer the non-padded feel of it without gloves. My hands tend to fall asleep with any gloves, padded or non, and I hate the tan lines.

I do a lot of barehanded in the summer, just haven't seen it as necessary, (well, sure, in a crash they're handy) until last month when I did well over 100 miles and realized I was getting a blister on my palm.

I suppose the solution is to ride faster so I'm on the bike for a shorter period of time.

I am currently using the Giro Monaco and they work well. I love Castelli stuff but don't like their mitts. One of the reasons I don't like mitts all that much is that they tend to push down on the webbing between my fingers. This is minimized by the Giros.

I have half-finger gloves too, but oddly no tan lines on my fingers...

I was looking for a pair of proper cycling gloves, but they all seem frail according to their reviews - including the Specialized BG gloves. I have several pairs of Mechanix gloves that I tried: M-Pact ORHD, Original, and Fast-Fit. The M-Pact has the gel padding on the palm, but I found it to be very thin and useless. The M-Pact was also very heavy, bulky, and thick. The Original is less bulky, and has a velcro strap closure - but I found it to be too thick and cuts down the ventilation. The Fast Fit is probably my favorite. It is lightweight, breathes easy, and is just as durable as the Original Mechanix gloves. The full finger aspect seems to offer more protection as well. I use Mechanix glvoes for shooting, working on cars/motorcycles/bicycles, and anything that involves tools. For my motorcycle, I wear Alpinestars GP Pro racing gauntlets.

I also agree about the snot wiping surface, that would make the Mechanix gloves even better.

I may pick up a pair of full-finger gloves for winter riding...but it really doesn't get all that cold around here.

+1 Same glove I use. I use PI full fingers in colder weather and on the MTB.

I use SRAM supercork tape and I used to ride with padded half-finger gloves (PI, Giro), but ditched the gloves recently due to the tan lines.
It was weird/disconcerting/slippery at first, but I've gotten used to it.

No gloves, hands are hot, gloves just melt away, when they get wet they impede braking, my fingernails do most of the tire cleaning(you don't clean,) don't need them for cushioning, that's what my arms are for, overall I have better grip when at speed without gloves, imho

And they outlast all of the flimsy cycling-specific gloves I ever used by an order of magnitude.
