I am now a roadie convert

I took my first ride on my Rocky Mountain Oxygen 30 last night, and let me tell you, this thing is a whole new animal compared to my Trek 830.

I can’t wait to really break in the bike and see what I am capable of.

I do have some soreness in my shoulders today after only a short 10 mile first ride, so I am thinking I need to adjust my handlebars a little more and work on my posture. I do have a 90mm (vs 100mm) stem on the way, which should put me in the perfect position. Of course I was worried I ordered the bike too large, and this soreness isn’t helping. The bike is a 54cm with a 55cm top tube. I am 5’83 with a 30.5” standover without shoes.

I do plan to ride with a group about 40 minutes away in a few weeks, as the leader does bike fittings on the side.

I will try to get a few pictures of the bike up, as it is a real looker.

You'll wear this bike more than you'll wear your best suit, and there aren't many biomechanics involved in wearing that suit. So get a proper fitting with someone who knows how to do it. Don't just eyeball it.

Also, what kind of tire gauge do I need to check the Prestas? I have a small frame mini pump with a built in gauge but found out quickly that it only goes up to 100psi, which wasn't a problem for my 40psi city tires. I just went and picked up a floor pump so I can get the tires properly inflated.

But I like to have a small guage for quick checks.

Get a decent floor pump with a gage. You'll want to pump up your tires before every ride....no need to check them really....they'll be low. They don't hold pressure for days like your old tires did....just the way it is.

I am glad I didn't blow a tire last night. My small frame pump is pretty accurate on 40psi for my city tires on the Trek. I got my new standup pump, and it was nowhere near 100psi. They now have 110 in each. Should be interesting to see how differently the tires ride now.
