Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

im having saddle issues....

I am having issues with my current Romin Expert saddle. I had this saddle on my old bike i really didnt have to many problems. However I did move this saddle onto my new bike and ever since my second fitting it's been bugging the hell out of me. It feels like im riding on the sides of the saddle in my taint area.

When I went in for my 2nd fitting they raised and moved back my saddle. My question is what adjustments can i make or should I look at buying a new saddle? If I buy a new saddle i was interested in the toupe but here in Sacramento I dont know of any places that would let me try one out.

Any suggestions?

Dont buy a saddle, change the fit, you said the saddle worked before so why change it.

Take it back to the fitter for an adjustment.

Sounds like your saddle is too high and too far back. Lower it and move it forward to where it was comfortable

I'll look at lowering it slightly and moving it forward. if that doesn't work then I'll take it in.

How wide is your saddle at a point 120 mm (4 3/4") to the rear of the tip of the nose?

The picture below, shows what I meant. If yours is 143 mm then that could be the problem. My new saddle is only 54 mm and based on only a couple of rides, the narrowness of it has alleviated my chaffing problem. I was getting chaffed at the top inside of the leg at the edge of the taint.

So by this pic are you suggesting a new saddle

You should be able to move the saddle fore/aft for comfort without affecting the fit.

Think of it as your butt staying in the proper place and moving the saddle fore/aft to make that position more comfortable.

I had this exact problem. I have one on both my mountain bike and road bike, the fit is almost identical. The only difference was the upright posture on the mountain bike vs the road bike. The Romin really requires an aggressive fit, try riding in your drops.

If you like your Romin, you will probably detest the Toupe (mainly meaning that if your riding style suits the Romin, the Toupe is not for you). Move your saddle forward and see how that affects things. And / or go visit the fitter again and let him know what's going on.

Well if your saddle is indeed 143 mm wide where my picture above shows "X" then it is an extraordinary saddle and you definitely need to get a more normal bike saddle. Perhaps we have a misunderstanding? I simply can't comprehend how your saddle could be 5" wide in the middle unless you made it from a bar-stool.

There are some fitters that think every rider needs to have a pro look alike fit. I am guessing you could try moving the saddle down and forward and see if it works for you. How does the geometry of the new bike compare to the old one.

the geometry is different as my old bike was an oversized Tommasso Imola. I have since upgraded to a Tarmac so I have gone to a more aggressive bike. I have always thought that the Romin was a little stiff but I haven't had this much pain before. I did move the seat forward this morning but i am still sore from riding Monday so it's hard to tell if that will help.

I am not sure anymore if I like the aggressive saddle anymore that's why I was thinking about the toupe

Toupes are plenty aggressive, they're just flatter. The way the sales dude explained it to me, they're for people who move around more on the saddle (which I thought was me) so I tried one. Hated it within 3 miles. Tried some Fizik saddles and ultimately ended up with a Romin evo. You wouldn't think they're that different but they are to me!

Ask them to let you try a demo saddle - you just paid for a fitting, it's the least they can do.

there are a few good fitters in the Sacramento area. Take it for re-fit. I have some thoughts on why, but without seeing you on the bike (old/new) I don't want to put ideas in your head.

For me, Specialized saddles are a** hatchets. I tried them all except the Chicane. I found bliss with the Fizik Aliante.

If I have time tonight I'll try and slap the bike on the trainer to get a pic or 2
