I'm lucky my girlfriend doesn't seem to notice things like the color of my bike going from blue, to black, to white to . . . ah, but we're not married so I don't have to lie to her yet.

Just tell her that you entered a contest and won the bike. You can't argue with getting a new bike that you won in like a raffle or something. Worked for me...

Muddy it up, get something nasty looking on the handlebars, keep it in the garage and call it your beater rain bike.

I'm pretty good at hiding the small bling. I handle the bookkeeping and am good at creative accounting. Been tipping the UPS and FedEx drivers to leave packages in the bushes for years. Packages that require a signature get delivered to a friend's house. But a whole bike is a different matter. I'm thinking about camouflaging the frame to look like a beater - maybe tape it over. She doesn't know enough to notice high-end components.

LOL the raffle idea is pretty good however you should've started sooner by saying weeks ago about how you entered a drawing for that exact bike.
I told my girlfriend that I got a ton on my trade in for my old bike so the new one only cost me 400 buck! LOL
However I also make 75% of the income so we're in different shoes. Has she not already looked at the bank account and seen the purchase?

OK I've got another idea. I think you've already got at least a small stable of bikes, just a hunch. So on the sly, strip the new bike down to the frame and swap parts with the lowest end parts you can find off the other bikes. Leave one or two parts off or disconnected. Put dirty duct tape in various places on the frame. Then show it to her and brag about the bargain price, because it rides like junk but you think the frame might be salvageable. Then gradually over weeks restore it. Spend some time on it. She'll think you're slaving evenings to save money.

You cant hide a bike from the wife so just tell her the truth that you want to buy a new one.

I prefer the direct, upfront approach. I explained to my wife that many guys (married) have girlfriends. I don't, but my flaw is that I sometimes purchase larger ticket items without consulting her first. She understood the concept and accepts my flaws.
That was 20 years ago and we're still going strong.

I get hiding the little stuff here and there to avoid it seeming like you're blowing all of your money on bike stuff, but if you can afford the new bike, why lie about it? She'll eventually find out and get mad that you lied.

Well, since we're well down the path of deceit, just tell her it was a gift... from your girlfriend.
