i just say riding 5 miles in 10 mins i should say that still slow i guess.

YOJiMBO20 09-30-12 06:17 PM

So you're faster than the pros?

I'll be your second supporter here. Go join a WorldTour team and win the Giro/Tour/Vuelta triple in one year. Make history.

Okay guys Happy New Years!! One question for you all. If the same person rides the same exact bike with same type of tire but one is fixed and the other is single speed.. Which bike would you go faster on?? Thanks!

There's a lot more variables to take into consideration than the ones you listed.
ie: rider size/weight, fitness level,type of terrain,etc.
In the end of the day it all comes down to the motor.

Depends on who pedals faster.

Ghost Ryder 01-12-13 05:10 PM

Slow-twitch vs fast-twitch...
Also what app you're using to time yourself. :D

I say do your own experiment Simon!
Most of these bikes have flipflop setups, make sure you have the same size cogs, & a nice stopwatch.
Tell us which setup gets to the 10 min mark 1st in your casual 5 mile ride.

SimonLee 01-12-13 06:17 PM

Good idea man. lol.

SimonLee 01-12-13 06:19 PM

Hmm but once you get it going its easier to push down since the pedal is already moving even before you apply force downward. okay :)

This thread is awesome!

canyoneagle 01-13-13 01:07 AM

This thread is full of win.

jtwilson 01-13-13 01:19 AM

But how much does the freewheel drag slow down the single speed vs the fixed with the same gear ratio? Maybe fixed is cheating????!1!1

SimonLee 01-13-13 01:20 AM

yea fixed gear= cheats lol.

jtwilson 01-13-13 01:35 AM

A fixed gear makes connection with your soul to the road. You will never get that with with a singlespeed. Def cheeting. Try gears and see how hard it is 4 you really.

caloso 01-13-13 01:36 AM

Fixed zen and all that.

jtwilson 01-13-13 01:46 AM

It's true, maybe you were 40mph with zen. I have never tried it but I hear zen will help you at least 5mph maybe more with a little downhill slope.

If you want to be a real champ...
Nothing PED's can't "fix"!

jtwilson 01-13-13 02:22 AM

^^ I think we found the real secret to spin a 56t like mad!

Ghost Ryder 01-13-13 02:25 AM

Imagine Simon Lee on PED's...
His 10 mile times would be 1-1.5 mins tops!

escarpment 01-13-13 02:37 AM

I have spent the last 5 minutes reading through this thread. I have to say, it has all the makings to take a spot on the podium, if you know what I mean. The last thread of this magnitude was the JcChristian catastrophe, if anyone remembers that. Just got to keep itttt goingggg.

What if you made a fixed bike with gears? Then you'd be the fastestest ever!

escarpment 01-13-13 03:41 PM

I think a fixed gear track bike with gears would be the fastest noob killer ever.
