Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Huzzah!!! Picked up my first road bike today!

I bought my first "real" bike a couple years ago and enjoyed riding as a commuter and utility. Since then I've realized that the faster I'm going (generally), the more fun I'm having. I've spent a few months test-riding and researching (setting a price point, etc.), and finally decided on the Bianchi Impulso 105. Put a deposit down a couple weeks ago, and picked it up today. After riding about 20 miles, I'm very, very happy with the decision.

(The pedals are temporary, as I'm planning on going clipless soon)

By "105", you mean it is a 105 groupset on there? Very cool.

In season Two of Deadwood the barkeep gets a Boneshaker bicycle. It's the talk of the town and ultimately the downfall of Bullock's adopted son. In in 1885 the world's oldest bicycle/car company (BIANCHI) was formed. The TV series existing around the late 1870's.

And don't forget removing the dork disk and reflectors. Congrats on a great bike. I don't think Bianchi can make anything but beautiful bikes.

How did you manage to test-ride bikes? Do your local bike shops let you test ride one of their new bikes?

I'm looking to buy my first "real" road bike and would like to test ride before plunking down the bucks, but how?

Go to a reputable bike shop, tell them what you think you're interested in and your budget, listen to their suggestions, maybe ask a question or two or three, then request test rides on those bikes they suggest. Then go to another shop and repeat. This is what we call "shopping".
