Much appreciation for the responses. I felt totally awkward at my LBS after engaging in the convo w my regular sales guy. Eye contact was hard to maintain when I was in there yesterday looking at pedals and shoes.
So thanks again!

No underwear, ever. ,,,,,,-I ride a recumbent though, so no chamois cream thanks ;>)
Problem at the bike store is, if you don't wear underwear when trying pants on, clothing stores generally make you buy it--or won't take the item back. And yet, you can't try them on properly while wearing anything under them.
So you might end up stuck with a couple pairs that don't fit right or don't work well.

The cycling shorts work so well because of lack of seams in the wrong places and they don't chafe. No underpants with cycling shorts except while trying them on in the store.

SO I was at my LBS the other night and im a new born to road biking/athlete things. So I pointed out a pair of MTB shorts I bought the night when I bought my DEFY5 Giant, and acknowledged they were MTB shorts NOT Road bike shorts. SO, I began discussing purchasing a pair of road bike shorts and the subject came up about wearing undies. I dont wear anything. Things got awkward with the poor salesman and I left
Now im wondering how many of the 41 rides just straight bike shorts, no underwear. IS this uncommon? bad subject, I just dont normally wear under garments so I was looking to continue this tradition

For road bike spandex/bib short, never ever ever.

I've been using real bike shorts for 30 years and from the beginning I understood that you did not combine them with underwear.
I was off the bike for a couple of years due to a bad crash and when I started riding again I was starting out with fairly short rides. For convenience I was riding with normal cargo shorts and such, wearing underwear underneath. These worked fine for me for the short duration rides. When I was able to work up to longer rides I went back to my normal bike shorts.

you leave a racing stripe on the chamois, you're banned for life.
