Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

comando? SI O NO?!

SO I was at my LBS the other night and im a new born to road biking/athlete things. So I pointed out a pair of MTB shorts I bought the night when I bought my DEFY5 Giant, and acknowledged they were MTB shorts NOT Road bike shorts. SO, I began discussing purchasing a pair of road bike shorts and the subject came up about wearing undies. I dont wear anything. Things got awkward with the poor salesman and I left Now im wondering how many of the 41 rides just straight bike shorts, no underwear. IS this uncommon? bad subject, I just dont normally wear under garments so I was looking to continue this tradition

Commando,is,proper 41 etiquette!
I find MTB shorts chamois is a little thinner than road bike bib/shorts/chamois. Thinner bibs can make longer ride uncomfortable.
I did the same, I bought MTB shorts on a whim, not really knowing the difference. I only buy road bibs now since I know I can ride any of my bikes with them.

Commando is the only way, wearing underwear will cause chafing and would in general be uncomfortable.

It's not a choice, or something to debate or even think about. You do not wear undies with bike shorts.

Some of us have no need for chamois cream, so skip it unless you need it.

So you shouldn't start every sentence with "so".

So have you ridden to that remedial English class yet?

Wear some cotton undies on a nice 30-40 mile ride in the heat and you will have your answer after a couple days of pain.

But you better wear your underwear if you're trying those suckers on at the store. Otherwise, the instant they touch your skin, you've bought them.

Wearing cotton underwear negates the absorption factor of the bike shorts.

Once they get wet, they'll stay wet.

You'll be brewing "nad" tea.

Bikes: are better than yours.

BF used to have a member called the undwear nazi who showed up in every one of these threads to set riders straight. Freeballing only.
