Guess I should have asked what maladies he has acquired lately.

Those Bad Idea T-shirt ads in the right margin make me feel like a dirty old man.

Preferably not since when it comes up my dumb ass fingers have difficulty staying away from the keyboard.

Glad I'm not the only one.

I think that this is where we're at right now.

Good synposis. I hate to see him get hurt - love is blind I suppose. I don't know what it is that attracts some men to "unstable women" - I've known a few.

Me too.

It's like a car wreck...I should look away, but I can't help myself...

I have been guilty of that... and can explain it pretty easily. It's the desire to be the "hero rescuing the damsel in distress". Strong, confident, stable, intelligent women RARELY need to be rescued. Too bad it took me 42 years to figure out those make the best relationships.

Word. That, and the really independent ones who blaze their own trail aren't interested in guys who are successful, yet quiet about it. Not until later in life, once they've figured out the dolts they've been sleeping with/dating/marrying are just clowns out of makeup.

Alcohol and other mood enhancers change all of the rules as well.

The stuff that was removed from this thread belongs in the Politics and Religion forum. It's a balancing act between letting people say what they want in any way they want and keeping people that, strangely enough, just want to talk about bikes on a bike forum. I am one of those people that doesn't want to mix politics with fun, it really ruins a conversation when someone brings up politics. really hard to be consistent without being dictatorial. And not only that, but it's a lot of work on an unpaid volunteer job. If you want us to be consistent, then you can report the occasional political post to help us out. The reason we care about this discussion is that there were tears on the playground

And of course discussing topics involving strongly held beliefs is bound to get out of hand, and so it did.Moderating is a balancing act, derived from the term 'moderate'. I tried to do that with this thread so as not to promote a stifling atmosphere. I'm convinced it works in here most of the time. But I'm always ready to put a cap on things should outsiders or non-regulars be drawn in, which is the reason I went to a simple thread-naming naming convention, to not attract outsiders (non-regulars).The Newton tragedy was so egregious as to become the exception to the norm. I admit I should have squashed it early on, but hindsight is always 20-20. On the other side of the coin, strong, confident, stable, intelligent women can also be a threat to some men.

nah, it's because crazy chicks are more fun! the sex is awesome! every day is an adventure! some men like high drama just as much as some women do.

and while rescuing the damsel in distress might be motivation for some, the men who have told me the above often did not have the capacity to perform any kind of rescue. they were just along for the ride.

To give you an idea I spent over an hour cleaning up this thread yesterday, completely skipped my lunch at work to get it done. I will be the first to admit that I was as much of the problem as anyone and I let my emotions get the best of me. I apologize for my part in it. I am human and I screw up as much as the next guy, if not more.

The truth is that this thread is pretty much used as the foo of the road forum. It's a place for us all to talk and joke around, even give each other a hard time. It is not a place for politics and religion even though from time to time those things do take place. During the election it was very hard to keep it out of this thread but I think the mods did a good job at keeping it civil (I wasn't an active mod at the time so I can't take any credit).

We all need to try to not take things too far in this thread, joking is fine but if we push it a little too far we need to be able to step back, apologize, and move on. I really enjoy this thread and don't want to have to go to foo to have one like it. As roadies we all have something in common and it's nice to have a place to talk to each other about our lives, no matter how screwed up they may be (Solo).

I used to date a crazy one and I'll tell you all of that was true. When she was on her meds it wasn't too bad. However, after one sip of alcohol all hell would break loose. It gets old fast.

I saw Two Noble Kinsmen at the Globe. That was high drama (and a little comedy).

Crazy chicks are pretty much the looser ones in my experience, so when we straight guys were younger, they appealed to us because hey, it is someone giving me permission to have sex with them. Right on.

Now approaching 50, I find the hot ones are [like] the CEO of Cinnabon, or the one back home who used to be a wallflower, takes care of herself and will retire before me with a hefty retirement package and a sprawling ranch.

Crazy chicks in my demographic are typically the ones who never stopped partying, can't get through the week without causing some sort of personal upheaval to justify their existence, and in general, are trying to hang onto 29 a little too long.

Not saying this is you TS, but my generalization is what happens to the ones you accurately described once they get older.
