I did not ride today.

OTOH I did run and swim, which is not as much fun as cycling but better than nothing.

I agree that a few pounds difference on a bike or your frame won't make a big difference. There are online calculators that can demonstrate this fact.

Anectdotally, I switched from my 1980's steel bike to a modern Ti which is maybe 6 pounds lighter. (24--->18), and there is no big difference in "average speed."

so SA. you're saying that in races that you want to win or with any hills you'll use your sub 14lb bike. Isn't the legal limit 14.99lbs (6.8kg)? If so you are planning to cheat to try and win. way to go Lance.

I race USAC races not UCI, and there is no limit except at National Championships, and NRC races where bicycles used must comply with UCI regulations. So basically there is no weight limit unless I race those events. So I am not cheating at all. A guy I race against uses a 11.2lbs R5ca, and I don't care that he does. He is technically not breaking any rules, nor am I.

Correct.

Canceled bike ride because of it.

Ran instead. It was brutal.

That too.

That said, it really is a facepalm to see all the posts by overweight amateur cyclists on how they are shaving a pound or two off their bicycles.

Literally, in SA's case.

I went to the pool today with my 12 year old daughter, who had synchronized swim practice. We "shared" a lane for a few minutes. She swam at roughly the same pace as me.

She informed me that I am a S-L-O-W swimmer...especially for a "grownup."

As if I didn't already know that...

datlas 01-20-13 03:53 PM

Why are some of the taglines, including mine, effed up??

She should be your coach.

Looks like you are right...but I liked my observation better.

Back from my recovery ride. Not sure what you Freds are talking about. It was probably windier yesterday than today. A bit cooler, too.

Recovery ride?? What was your average speed?

The sad state of this place has precious little to do with me.

The only thing I am good at that relates to BF being "broken" is my gift of circumventing the censor.

17.7 today. My recovery ride may have been faster than my 2/3 metric century yesterday.

Go figure.

Oops, underestimated my feat

47.7/62.1= 0.768 metric century

I don't think so...although apparently you are now the official "jen" of Addiction.

datlas 01-20-13 05:50 PM

I just watched the last few laps of the first stage of the TDU (it's on steephill.tv)....I won't spoil it, but it's pretty cool to see professional road cycling again for the first time in several months.
