It is a bit odd. Trainers suck
I may even ride them in the summer if I need a quick fix in the evening. |

I was looking forward to riding the rollers this evening all day. Just did a longish tempo sort of thing and watched Comedy Central.
I like it. It's odd. |

Yeah. Endorphin junkie mostly, but rollers do help for long steady stuff.

if we are talking about who deals witht the worstest drivars evar, I think I would win hands down. Asian drivers are the pits and I think Taiwan drivers are the bottom of the pits. Unless someone living in India wishes to take the prize, I claim it.

The movie Flight that I watched last night features some amazing flying by an addict/alcoholic.
Unfortunately, in the real world this is the sort of thing that typically happens. |

I went to a song writing seminar down in more populous Bergen County NJ tonight, one conducted by a friend of mine who is a pro songwriter performer (she does inspirational genre music, she's cut albums in Nashville, etc.). For all you idiot flyover boys out there, Bergen County is the NJ side of the fabled George Washington Bridge. Affluent close in suburbs of Manhattan. Like 35 miles south of here.
The more I hear of other people's song writing material, the more confident I get in my own. This included one professional song writer in this group who has sold music to TV and Madison Avenue and collects royalties. Her song was the only one there that I liked at all, I thought we gave her helpful input on it. They all liked my song, nobody really could find anything wrong with it. There really isn't, you either like it or you don't but for what it is, it works. That may be the strongest one I've written to date. |

Any song writing books you would recommend for a couple of teenage boys who want in in the industry, one's a quite talented 15 yo guitarist and the other a drummer.
Part of it may be that I play lead guitar, and I practice at that quite a bit, more now than ever before. When you are improvising lead guitar lines you are continually coming up with melodies on the guitar that you play over the chord changes. Maybe that flipped a switch in my head, because I used to play around with chord progressions and not hear melodies, but now I do. I learned a few things at this music seminar last night about song structure, etc. I suppose, but nothing that I didn't sort of already know. I went primarily to hear what other amateurs like me are doing. That's the music part. The lyrics aren't hard for me, I am a bottomless well of Pcad bull****. Oh yes, **** the music industry by the way. Too hard to make a living in the field. Great hobby. Abysmal career choice. Sure .01% of people make it. Only .001% make any real money in it. If you want to go into music as a career, be prepared to starve. |
Hard to convince 2 teenage boys of that though. In their mind a plan b is not wise, it's a cop out. They both eat , live and drink music. The drummer and eldest is pretty awesome at it. The younger and guitarist, Sam, is also superb and , according to his teacher, has what it takes to succeed in this unforgiving world.
The creative impulse.. Truly a mystery. |

The creative impulse.. Truly a mystery. The problem with having no plan b (I have a few good friends who started out that way 35+ years ago) is that by the time you realize you have to come up with one in your early 30s you are a bit behind the 8 ball. But a couple of guys I know did fine, one started his own custom drum company, the other is a computer consultant, both very talented musicians. Magstar Drums (he doesn't have a website, go figure): http://www.drummaker.com/images/magstar_drum.jpg |
I'm so friggin' tired. :o
