duckface should come promote cycling in Tennessee. Seems her efforts are being wasted on out-of-shape MUP Freds over there.

I think I passed the audition and I'm in the band. I have thought that before. But this is different. The singer in this band is one of the best female vocalists in the Hudson Valley. I played with John, the other guitar player and our voices sounded GREAT together. I was just playing electric guitar and singing backup vocals. With Jean (this woman singer) we'll sound like Crosby Stills and Mrs. Nash. John doesn't play lead, he really liked my lead guitar playing, which did sound very good over his acoustic rhythm guitar. Added an instrumental and vocal depth to the sound that might really come together well. Interestingly enough, they don't have a bass player, so we may all split the bass playing duties. That might be kind of fun.

Interesting. Very interesting.

For the "football players aren't athletes" crowd - 306lbs kid at the combine runs a 4.7sec 40-yard dash.

Being chased by someone like that is your worst nightmare.

Only for me. For the rest of the world, not so much.

How do you audition? Do you get music in advance and play it? Show up and play something of your choosing?

Guitar slingers wing it.

Is that a good thing?

They are fast twitch beasts. I wonder what his 5 second would be on a bike... if he did not break it.

Me and shiny new bike crap....

Fun Fact: 58km = 36 miles

How much training does one need to do to ride 36 miles?

Only if you have an ear for music.

I don't even want to learn how to play the friggin bass, but if it's required, I shall. I can assure you I will be purchasing the cheapest bass I possibly can.

If you don't like how those guys sound, you're deaf.

patentcad 02-23-13 09:19 PM

You get the right voices together and it's magical. I'm hoping we'll sound that way, it's possible, my vocals and John's sounded great through the PA today. My voice is almost better suited to high harmony, it gets thin in the upper ranges, but I hit the notes spot-on, and when you're the backup vocal, the voice timbre is far less crucial. Add a female harmony in that mix and it could really sound killer. You never know until you sing together. I often wonder how amazing it must have been for Crosby, Stills and Nash to sing together for the first time. Those first three part harmonies coming through the PA must have been an eye opener for those guys.

That's the killer hook for a bar band. You get those vocals working and that's 90% of the battle. You'll get the gigs if you have the sound. Of course that's a mixed bag, playing in a bar band is a fair amount of work, we're all 55-60 years old (our drummer is only 26 however), we all have jobs and lives, etc. But we're all into it. Could be big fun. I really like these people, and I think we're all on a similar musical page. I'd get to play a lot of lead and fill guitar and sing backup which would be a blast. Less taxing on my aging Pcad brain too. Less to remember.
