Not quite. maybe I should start and tack on the 100 dollar entrance fee.

Here's something most people have no idea of. The typical general surgeon charging 2,000 dollars for an operation will see only 200 dollars of that bill. Quite remarkable. Now it may seem that I am unhappy in my work from the above comments. Nothing could be further from the truth than that thought. The reasons I choose medicine were 1) A love of helping people, 2) A love of science, 3) a love of challenge in my life, 4) A love of teaching, 5) A love of work. I can honestly say that consideration of income has never been the driving force in my work. That said, it is somewhat galling to see my net income being reduced 10 to 15 % per year despite working more and more hours each year. This is where my absolute contempt for the "entertainment" industry comes in. How can we as a society justify such extremes in income for such little benefit to society at large. The court jesters of King Henry's era are now the economic kings whereas the rulers have become simple pawns. When was the last time you heard a kid say he wanted to become the President? How about NFL quarterback? Kind of sad no?

First, I never said you were overpaid. You said you were underpaid.

Second, don't assume you have any idea of anyone else's education, work schedule, or income.

Third, you have been preachy of late, raging hard on the addiction and AA model, then on the Stupid Bowl. I totally agree that the truck ad has garnished silly attention, and that it looked like a chromed out Caddy. But you seemed to be slamming folks who appreciated the message about farmers (who work more than 70 he's per week).

And finally, to jump to calling me a "frickin ass wipe" shows that maybe you can toss mud but not receive any.

I like whooshie's summation better :)

First I never said I was underpaid. I said footballers were overpaid ....a big difference.
Second- Where have I assumed anything about anyone education work schedule etc.
Third- I don't preach, all of what has been typed here has been typed with a smile and a chuckle, even my calling you an ass wipe which I do in complete jest.
And finally- have at it, I love mud slinging and promise to keep it lighthearted. I would use emoticons to further clarify, just can't bring myself to do it though. And no, it was not a lack of appreciation for farmers at all. I grew up working on farms and most of my family, save the last generation, have been farmers. It's rather the USE of the farmer idiom to sell a truck that bothers me, just as I am bothered by the use of a beautiful woman to sell cigarettes.

Is goose as greasy as they say? It sounds so romantic, a roast goose. Have to try it sometime.

Actually, the guy who leases the fields behind our house drives a pretty nice-looking pickup truck. It's not new anymore, but it's straight and clean. No rust.

And I liked your single speed. If mine wasn't stashed in the shed, I'd snap a photo because they could be twins.

Speaking of Yankee thriftiness, one of my brothers is worse than that. He bought a tired old $200 pickup truck. Drove it fairly hard for like 10 years. When it finally gave up the ghost, he still wasn't sure that he got his money's worth out of it.

My parents did not rub off on me in this regard. After a childhood of wondering if we would ever make our destination, I caved and actually bought a new care at the age of 33. I felt terribly guilty about it but the new car smell ( a 1987 Toyota Corolla) was so intoxicating that I forgot about the guilt very quickly. And most amazingly... the car never broke down. It was a very nice experience.

My aunt has gotten several nice new trucks for her farm over the years. They start looking very clean and good. Farm work is hard on them, but they were new once.

Actually I'm not sure if it was really a yankee thing at all or maybe a depression era experience exerting its will. Nothing was thrown out in our house. Brown paper lunch bags were to be brought home and used again and again. Our garage was filled with jars and coffee cans filled with every screw, washer, nail, scrape of metal that ever passed through our house hold. Aluminum foil wash washed and reused as were plastic sandwich or freezer bags. When my dad started collecting his social security check he looked at me and said " what am I supposed to do with all this money"?

NFL QBs sell more jerseys than Presidents or doctors.
