My wife grew up on a southern Ohio farm. Real down to earth folks. her dad still has a 1970 F-150, pretty near perfect condition despite very heavy use. A few scratches and rust areas but really well preserved. 20,ooo miles.

The guys that work the farm where we buy our food mostly drive 10 year old Subarus and ride bikes.

Should be good for writing off the losses come tax time, and I'm sure that the Haitian kids will wear them proudly along with their 49ers Superbowl XLVII Champion shirts.

The Dodge ad would have been improved if there were a dozen migrants in the back of it.

i have a hard time liking prince. knew too many people when i lived in minneapolis who worked for him, and heard too many stories.

i have a general rule that there are three sides to every story, and try to not judge someone based on someone else's opinion, but when there's a general consensus about a person and they screw with enough of your friends, it's hard to not have some issues with them.

well, and i've also just never really liked any of his music.

so, prince = meh.

my uncle and aunt had a dairy farm. spent a bit of time there as a kid. they had a ****ball truck. they struggled. a lot. the image in the ad of the gnarly hands totally looked like my uncle's.

i miss them. even though they tortured me with ham hocks and sauerkraut and pea soup, and my uncle would blow cigar smoke in my face and laugh. sauerkraut, pea soup, an cigars have grown on me as an adult, and make me think of them.

This is where my absolute contempt for the "entertainment" industry comes in. How can we as a society justify such extremes in income for such little benefit to society at large.
Because the entertainment industry gets to harness something you don't - economies of scale.

Movies, music, professional sports - these things all tap in to the fact that their product can reach millions of people - each of whom generate only a couple of dollars of profit - but when scaled by millions those small individual profits generate billions.

So when that industry is generating billions of dollars in profits, and the prime attraction comes down to the actions of a talented few... those few deserve every penny. In fact, when you look at the entire revenue stream and just how much money industries like the NFL generate, that quarterback isn't overpaid, he is grossly underpaid. His share of the wealth, compared to team owners and commissioners and whatnot, is a tiny fraction, and yet he is the reason why the money rolls in AND he is paying a serious price in terms of health to do it.

I have seen many editorial cartoons over the years that make fun of the disparity in income between a pro sports player and a soldier: "This guys hits a ball with a bat and whines a lot, and makes millions, this guy puts his life on the line and lives in **** and makes minimum wage, and gee, isn't this all frigged up?" If both professions got paid by the same people and pay was a measure of worth to society, then hell yes it would be friggin' injustice. But that's not how it works. The pro sportsman is in an industry that makes a ton of money and he gets a cut; the soldier provides a social service and society (by way of who they elect and the taxes they are willing to pay) pays them what they see that as worth. Two completely different funding streams.

Same with teachers, fire, police - and in Canada, doctors.

It must be nice to have it all figured out.

I remember when my Drill Sergeant said "I WISH I WAS F'N DEAD RIGHT NOW! SOMEBODY SHOOT ME IN THE F'N FACE!"

Now I can relate.

Fortunately I do not think of such things when I listen to him. I just like his talent and at least in this case, I think he's worth every penny he earns. Even if he is an ass wipe. He can still play like a mutha ****er

Filling my skull with some really good oatmeal, that should dull things down a bit.

No need to share your sexual fantasies here. That's what Trollheim is for.
