Jobs was a good salesman all right, but make no mistake, his innovation changed the face of computing more profoundly than just about anybody in the last 40 years.

Anyone who dismisses that only reveals their own ignorance. The 41 is of course the perfect venue for that. Well done.

Jobs was special. An innovative and creative who also was a great salesman. Rare. A geek with business acumen.

Correct. But well beyond that, he fully grasped the importance of making the arts and design interact with technology to create software and hardware that work better with the people that use it. And understanding that the computing experience (be it on a desktop, laptop, phone, tablet, whatever) IS the interface, and that really matters. That simple truth has always eluded most techies, probably still does, although less today thanks to a few guys like Jobs who pushed things in the right direction.

These guys that think anybody cares about the tech aspect of these machines are the IT Idiots of the world, they'll never change, but they have been increasingly marginalized to the back office workbenches where they belong. The more you can make the technology disappear, the more successful it generally gets, and that applies to almost all things technical. It's not easy to do that, and ironically it requires a lot of highly sophisticated tech innovation to get there. But once you're there it's not apparent to the end user and the complexity furthers a simplicity of use that 99% of us are after.

That's all old news, now everybody gets it, there's money in that simplicity. But make no mistake, all these other smartphones were originally dead knockoffs of the first iPhone hardware/software. It was inevitable, the compensation Apple gets in court is beer money, they can't really ever be compensated. But giving Apple **** for suing these other companies is the biggest joke.

In short term. But innovation drives apple and its stock.

Perhaps that's why the thread is on life support?

No matter how hard you hate, you can't even begin to take that away from him.

Oh please.

You don't have to prove you're dumb enough for the 41. Your mere presence here is enough for us.

Have been able to see dad a few times. Talk about an empty, helpless feeling. I'll be sleeping here this evening.

Best wishes for your dad, LC.

LowCel 02-06-13 10:37 PM

Thanks everyone for all the well wishes and prayers.

Not sure if I mentioned it but the have left the part of his skull hinged to allow for swelling.

Man that's scary, I was on coumadin for about 7 months after my DVT. Bummer LC, hope he bounces back.

I'm on it for the rest of my life, though I'm thinking about changing to another option, getting sick of going for bloodwork.

Good luck with it lowcel.

Trying to think of a joke that won't make me sick. My Dad is on the same thing right now. :(

I think the key for me has been the morning ride. 1st thing in the am 30 min on the trainer. Right out of bed, shorts, shoes, on the trainer. Before I am even awake. GO! better than coffee.

woot! good to hear something is finally working for you. if only i could get myself to go to sleep an hour earlier, to get up an hour earlier, to ride in the morning. i usually sleep until i absolutely have to shuffle across the hall to my desk.

LowCel 02-07-13 01:24 AM

Trying to sleep on a wooden coffee table. Doesn't seem to be working.

LowCel 02-07-13 04:31 AM

Just went back to check on Dad. He is responding to pain stimuli. I warned the nurse that if Dad gets up and punches him it is his own fault.

Rowan 02-07-13 05:00 AM

Good luck, LC. There's not much else I can say, except hang in there.

patentcad 02-07-13 05:43 AM

They are predicting a foot + of snow here. Biggest storm in two years, we didn't get any snow last winter.

The colonoscopy goes on.

RecceDG 02-07-13 06:09 AM

LowCel, I hope everything turns out OK.

I saw a Z10 display model in the mall today. Real phones sold out. And the display model is they typical shell with no guts in it. But it is a really nice form factor, fits well in the hand, and looks very refined. Makes a great first impression.
