The 3 is the old version, 4 is new.
Although the 3 was the 'race' slick, and when they went to the 4 they grouped other tires in on it. The 'service course' is the race, the 'endurance' is the old Krylion Carbon. I think there is a light weight edition too.

This seems totally weird to me. Hearing the tire on the road in the first place, and you can hear it over the wind noise in your ears at 20 mph?

Maybe I am missing something but there is nothing new in that article. Michelin announced and launched all models of the 4 last year.

Oh and OP - the 2 rocked. The 3 was way too soft and while it was awesome in performance it cut and flatted way too easy. After flatting out of a few races I switched complete off of michelins for clinchers. (To continental). With the pro 4 I went back. Same awesome performance (even better) with much better wear and flat performance. Like the old 2 but better.

I've heard plenty of people saying the GP4000S feels "dead" and the Pro3 was much more "lively". Is that still true of the Pro4 line, and is the flat resistance at all comparable now? The GP4k flats almost never in my experience (knock on wood) while feeling MUCH better than the Gatorskin. Still, I'm violently allergic to flats, so I'm disinclined to try the Pro4 unless they're very durable as well now.
Lifespan is less of an issue for me, mind you, I just don't want flats while the tire is in use.

Agree 100%. I also had a new PRO3 let me down in a road race... I also swore off of them until the PRO4 promised better flat protection. for some reason I like how Michelin tires roll and handle comapred to Continentals... I have used the PRO4 Service Courses in TT's and really like them.

Fantastic to hear. Which Pro4? It's annoying that they made so many variants.

thanx for the info! I'm glad they didnt toss the formula on the Krylion. Back a few years ago someone posted a comprehensive study on rolling resistance where the Krylion fared near the top. That was the deciding factor for me.

I had cuts with the 4's also but what has worked for me to avoid the cuts was 116 tire pressure. I believe this is their thinking behind the thicker middle section.
