Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I just wanna point out that this isnt my first time riding. Yes the seat is too high and yes the stem is too flat. Trust me though, the seat is no good.

I took the seat down, but only about a half inch. I think the bad lighting makes the seat look a lot taller than it actually is in the original photo. The stem definately needs to come up. Not only is it a long reach to the bar, but its super low. I would like to get a straight stem thats a hair shorter, but im gonna have a go at flipping the stem and see if that helps first.

Specialized Romin evo pro
The regular Romin was a complete pain in the butt (literally) for me. I have been very happy with the Fizik Aliante.

Selle SMP makes a low cost saddle called a TRK which cost around $80.00. I think I paid about $180.00 for my SMP Plus.

I had a Brooks Swift for a few months and it didn't work for me. I need a cut out to prevent numbness.

but
I also had problems with the swift. One thing was the leather was too thin and the saddle streatched out quickly. The Professional has kept it's shape better.

Hey Roman, man, long time indeed, remember seeing you back in the day. Good to hear you're back on the bike. The Flite Max can usually be picked up used on eBay for reasonable money and should be a good option for you.

The Romin Evo is completely different. It's the same concept as the SMP and similar to the Aliante you like. I found it much more comfortable than the Aliante.

I rode a Brooks-ish Ideale for a couple of years. Wanted to love it cuzza aesthetics. Did not like no matter how hard I tried so gave it to roommate.

My number 2 bike ( and winter/rain bike ) has an Aliente on it, I don't hate it but I certainly do not love it. The Brooks Professional I love. Use to have an Ideale decades ago. Brooks was always better for me.

BTW, I have a slightly used Arione ( Carbon fiber) and Romin, both with fewer than 500 miles and in excellent shape that I will send to anyone for a song and a dance. PM me for details.

Picked up a take off saddle from the lbs today. Its red and black and looks totally out of place on my
Bike lol. Came off a giant and has it plastered all over the rear end. 100 time
Better than I had though.

Might be worth it to have someone at your LBS fit your bike to you. That might also help to make riding more comfortable.
+2.

A lot of LBS fitters will do "free" fits if it looks like you're in the market to buy a saddle. many of them are paid hourly anyway and don't mind the extra time they're devoting to you!
