I won't be adding argyle to my sock arsenal.

Too Garminy/Slipstreamy for you?

Nah, I just don't do argyle.

I like argyle fine, just not for cycling gear.

the way the brooks fanboys go on, I would expect a butt massage during the ride. i bet that doesn't happen, right?

We moved in here on March 31, 1997, and overnight into April 1, we got a foot of snow. At the time we were the only house up here. We're sitting here in the middle of nowhere atop Mt. Doom (which at that time had yet to be named Mt. Doom by BF Papal Edict) wondering if moving to lower bumfark from civilized, close to NYC, affluent Bergen County, NJ, on top of a mile long private road with numerous 15%++ grades had been such a great idea after all. It all worked out.

The roads are clean in our borrough this morning. They are just wet now. I think we got like 3-4 inches of snow but its gone now off the roads.
Its looking like it will be almost 50 and mostly sunny this weekend |

Move back to north Bergen county (civilization). Some place where there are sidewalks, markets, restaurants and a train station within walking distance. Buy a weekend house on eastern Long Island. It's the best of both worlds
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y11...ormsmaller.jpg All this 30-40 minutes from Bergen, about an hour from Manhattan. I'm in Bergen all the time on weekends riding with friends. I would move back to Bergen if I had $1 million+ to dump into a primary residence. I do not. We're here mainly for financial security (we don't owe much on our beautiful house, and we don't want to leverage ourselves to the hilt in our mid 50s to buy a nice house in Bergen, one thing goes wrong for my business or our health and we're screwed). There are things I don't like about living here, things I absolutely love. Like anywhere else I suppose. I lived in Bergen much of my life, i forgot more about that place than you'll ever know fatso. However, the best line ever does to to PoP who did ask me shortly before he tried to jump on the Park Ridge Ride (aka the Tour de Phred) one fine Saturday 'what's the average speed of this ride?' Oh boy. He was literally shelled within 3 miles. |
The Park Ridge ride can be fast at times, but it's really kind of like Nyack Lite, and I suspect even Gomer could hang on that ride for 10 miles or so.

As nice as it might be to live in Hillsdale, walking distance from hot bagels on a Sunday morning, Orange county is much nicer if one doesn't need to commute to NY on a daily basis. I moved out of there because the daily wear and tear was pretty rough, and even the train from Suffern up to Harriman adds another twenty minutes or so. Mahwah is a nice compromise since I'm right near Harriman state park and I can summit Bear Mountain in about 90 minutes, but it's still urban sprawl (at least in the section I can justify living in). Unless I'm hell bent on bike racing, when my spawn goes to college we'll be selling out and either moving full time to the Adirondacks, or moving nearer to where ever he may land. Of course, I'll probably still be doing this stupid sport and I'll end up stuck in this house until I can't walk up and down the stairs.

Yeah, it's a mixed bag. We were looking at houses in Mahwah. When it was all said and done it was too dicey of a financial leap. We do love our house and property and it is absolutely beautiful here. Mrs. Pcad commutes to Woodcliff Lake (it's about a 40-45 minute drive each way) 4 days weekly and I work out of the house. We're close enough to family and friends and civilization. It works for us. If it didn't we would have pulled the plug ten years ago. |
