Keep in mind that they have a few different weights - the ultra-lights are great for the summer but don't hold up well. The mid-weight ones are a little thick for my tastes.

My overall favorite merino socks are SwiftWicks.

Increasingly, I want to have a BBQ and invite Solo (RIP), Whoosshhface, and Gomer. Also, the Internet being what it is, Ruokie should come, because I get the distinct feeling we'd get along far better in person than on the web. I have found that to often be the case.

I'll be there. Hell, I'll be in jersey a week from Sunday after my 4 days in Vegas.

I also have a pair of Balega running socks the store gave me when I bought my shoes. They're pretty nice too.

nah. Had to bring them to the vet to be boarded for my trip. One I tricked pretty easily. His brother was on to me, ripped me to shreds and then bloody RUOkie and the dogs chased him around the house for 20 min or so before I caught him. Bastid.

If a BBQ is to be had, jones needs to be there

I could ride the old Schwinn. It's only a couple of hundred miles.

The guitar solo potential of that White Noise song I wrote is cool. I was noodling over that last night, have to re-record it with some instrumental breaks to work out the guitar parts. Great melody, the guitar solos over it sounded so good, almost better as a pure instrumental progression.

The old ones I had were thin - I wish I had paid attention to the label, but they were freebies. Started wearing through the toes this winter. Not a hint of pilling or fuzzing.

I believe those are my normal socks - I thought it was Bal*ga though. I wanted something a bit taller and black for slightly more dressy occasions.

There's a guy up here who puts away his bike gear, and shorts at the first hint of cold weather. When there is a nice day he won't ride. He says " I put away my bike shorts." I don't get it.

Do you talk about bikes on a guitar forum? Do they understand bikes?

Yes.

Some of the guitar weenies are also bike weenies.

Big boys and their dumb toys.

I can't believe I actually listened to that...or that I'm going to try to post some constructive criticism. Overall I thought it was good but the chord change in the second verse bugs me. It starts with a minor then changes to a major on the word "matter"...there's gotta be a different chord that will work better...maybe stay minor...but the current chord sounds out of place. You do it again latter and it struck me the same way again.

And I had no idea you were a u-boat captain either!

You and I don't hear things the same way. That's fascinating, because for me the major/minor chord contrast makes that passage work, and yet it bothers you. But I do appreciate the input. Music is more subjective than just about anything else. Two people can listen to the same thing and hear it completely differently. As I like to observe, somebody likes Geddy Lee's vocals. Rush sold 30 million + albums.

And some are bigger weenies. I put a Kahler fixed bridge on an older Made in USA Strat and was labled a blasphemer.

To be fair, that sin pales in comparison to going over to Sram from Shimano.

No doubt it's all personal taste. I listened to it several times and noted all the other places where the major/minor mix is used and thought they all sounded fine. It's possible that what I find wonky is not the switch but that the chord progression rises to the major chord while the vocal is traveling lower. Any way...nit-picky on an overall fine effort. When you first started singing, I thought I heard a little James Blunt in your voice.

As a tribute to the upcoming spring, how about some surf rock guitar played by a friend of mine. It'll melt your face.

Dear pcad;

Can you educate me as to the difference between such things as a Les Paul Traditional, Traditional plus, Traditional pro, Standard, Standard ________ etc. Spawn is again in search of another mythical but I don't really grasp the subtle differences between what appear to be similarly priced models.

Speaking of those two ,I think actually it's a good idea you're getting that Scott bike, that way when you're Doing one of your gigs, and they end up running you out of town on a rail, you will be use to the feeling!

Give me a day or two, it's really rather convoluted. I had a Les Paul Standard Plus I think, but they have so many models. This is what I found: those are cheaper Gibson USA guitars; i.e., they retail on the street for $1500-$2500 or so (so, no, they're not real cheap). They generally pale in comparison to the Les Paul Historics (Gibson Custom Shop) which range on the street from $3000 for a plain top guitar to $5000-$6000 for a flamey 1959 Historic (R9) or 1960 Historic (R0). The Historics are more accurate to the originals, the Gibson USA guitars tend to be weight relieved (semi hollow). But they can be great guitars, although some of them come with the Burstbucker Pro pickups, which I hated. The Classic 57s are better pickups. You should go to the Guitar Center in Paramus and ask them there, they could also show you the guitars. Any price you get on the guitar there: be aware that Alto Music in Airmont or Middletown is typically $300-$500 cheaper, but Guitar Center will match their pricing. Harder also because Noah needs a lefty.
