Also depends on braking habits, I don't ride the brakes. But then I have a half a clue about how to operate a two wheeled vehicle. This is not a universal skill.

Great Ride in North Bergen Today - Loosing the Winter Fat and Getting Faster

Great ride this afternoon. Sunny and in the mid 50's. ****** North Bergen is so beautiful in the spring time. Did my regular route from Fair Lawn to Airmont. I'm within 1 mph of my normal summer average time and dropping the lbs!

Leg warmers and tights. How cold is it?

Until we are consistently in the 30's at 5:30 a.m., two layers on the legs. This morning was deceivingly warm and I overheated. Mornings have been 25 or so.

Okay, super sleuths - why would I have a gurgling sound coming from my rim? I was cleaning off the drive-train after a wet/gritty ride, and I noticed the noise as the rear wheel was slowly spinning (too slow or too fast = no noise). At first I thought that it might be the hiss of a slow leak at the wheel spun, but no. Gurgle. Is it possible to get water in the rim (Open Pro)?

edit - the noise comes from a specific spot, about 2 spokes away from the valve.

Yeah I have had that before with mine. I took it apart and pulled the tire , tube , and rim strip. I let it sit on a heat vent for a couple days. I dont bother with the disassembly any more. It stops by itself eventualy.

Indeed. But it was cheaper than the 59 reissue.

Cool, thanks.

Gary, I laugh when you call your son spawn. I refer to mine as offspring one and two.

life long nickname. it's even his email address.

A buddy of mine had an expensive race today, hit a pothole at around 15 mph and cracked both of his carbon Easton (tubular) rims. He weighs in the 130's and was running 120 psi.

No kidding. That's why I copped this R8 from a guy used. Killer axe and top, still ran $3400 used. Like I said ouch. But they blow the Gibson USA LPs into the friggin weeds. Great guitars. And very good resale, particularly if they have a nice figured top. I think I could sell this one for $3K to a dealer I know with one email. Those Historic Lesters are the big leagues of guitars, once you go over to Gibson or Fender Custom Shop stuff, that's high end. Yeah, they're generally better. And in my view they are often worth the 2-3x the price of the cheaper guitars. Life is too short to play crappy guitars. Not that you need one of course, But they do play/sound/feel better for the most part. That being said, once you're running through a pedal board and a good amp, you can get some pretty amazing tone out of a $400 Korean or Mexican guitar.

You know, just like gsteinb could out sprint everybody in the 41 on a Schwinn Varsity. While that may be true, even slow fat guys enjoy a nice expensive racing bicycle.

Yes, I think that sounds disappears if you keep the rim dry for a 3-7 days.

R9s with flamey tops generally retail new these days for $4800-$6000++ depending on the guitar. They are quite pricey. They're mostly all killer guitars however.
