No kidding. That's why I copped this R8 from a guy used. Killer axe and top, still ran $3400 used. Like I said ouch. But they blow the Gibson USA LPs into the friggin weeds. Great guitars. And very good resale, particularly if they have a nice figured top. I think I could sell this one for $3K to a dealer I know with one email. Those Historic Lesters are the big leagues of guitars, once you go over to Gibson or Fender Custom Shop stuff, that's high end. Yeah, they're generally better. And in my view they are often worth the 2-3x the price of the cheaper guitars. Life is too short to play crappy guitars. Not that you need one of course, But they do play/sound/feel better for the most part. That being said, once you're running through a pedal board and a good amp, you can get some pretty amazing tone out of a $400 Korean or Mexican guitar.

You know, just like gsteinb could out sprint everybody in the 41 on a Schwinn Varsity. While that may be true, even slow fat guys enjoy a nice expensive racing bicycle.

The R9 he played was pretty awesome looking, but it was overly figured, and I suspect the kind of thing that might get tiresome. From everyone I spoke to the R8 and R9 are essentially the same except for the more figured top, and a bit of neck shape. Custom buckers in both. It was the one guitar he played (R9) that I could really hear the difference. That said, the R9 we found online is lightly figured and a bit more subtle.

Used instruments are the way to go, but tough for a lefty.

I know a couple of guys whose kids have cancer. I figured life was too short for him not to have something that made him that happy.

Why would anyone have to apologize for stating the obvious?

Had dinner with the wife at a Vietnamese place in Tenafly tonight. Rice noodles, loads of vegetables and Portuguese white wine. Great athletes meal.
The place had a load of ex-pseudo hippie chick moms in all of their kids and long hair, 1970's hairy ***** ex-pseudo hippie glory. Moms, kids, no dads as to be found. Probably the Wall St. types at home stoned stupid until Monday. Would be a stinky good time with one or two of those mommies if it wasn't a night out with the wife

It's OK for an American to say that, but not an outsider.

How much food do you pack in when you're back in the east coast?

The part of Essex county that my parents live in is far from flat. Unlike its Limey namesake

I am a fat tub of lard so I'm storing a lot of food in my midsection. But I will haul home 2dozen bagels in my bags

coasting 03-30-13 08:45 PM

Ok...if you were planning on a long ride of hours upon hours, maybe all day, would you head out if there is torrential rain when you wake up and it just won't ease up?

I love BBQ. But I will get back to dieting starting 1 April, so no BBQ for coasting.

RU - we were looking up rear seat deletes for the abarth today. taking the back seats out is like a 5 minute job and removes 50 pounds from the car. haven't decided if i'm going to order the mass produced cover for the bare spot left or come up with a homebrew option but for now we're just going to cover it with black towels and see how well a bike and the rollers fit to go to a race next weekend without having to jam the passenger seat all the way forward.

Rest of year? No one can do that. I'm taking it one month at a time and I don't even manage to do that. 3 weeks straight on the wagon is a good outcome. March was pretty good but I did fall off, so April is a new beginning. As will May be and June etc.
