I dunno, the GS guys might've pulled their heads out their arsés by now, but anyone who stiffs me gets to experience first hand how well I hold a grudge. I leave it up to people like that to make me change my mind, but they never do.

Kelly was very good to me in the early days. I think the woman who ran the place was called Jeanie? I can't remember actually. Only problem with Kelly was they were a little unadventurous and wouldn't take any risks with the designs despite the fact that they would drool and fall over themselves at my more radical designs. "I'd LOVE to produce that but...." was a common phrase, although I think the rest of that sentence eventually went something like "...but I'm too busy going out of business being mediocre". Lovely people though.

Two other top people I should mention - Wolf Schussig ex Western Cycles now working at Grand Prix cycles in Elsternwick I think, and Geoff Ward at Bikecorp. Two guys that gave me a break when I needed it any whom I can never really repay.

FYI the only retro jerseys I have from the old days are some of those original Look and Mavic jerseys I designed back in 94 I think, as well as one of the original revamped TFM jerseys that I designed too. I do have a holey pair of Kelly tights though! *heh* oh, and some old sketches.

Man, I'm a chronic underachiever. :o *mumbles something about the 'ĺrse end of the world'*

He was a real gun. When he won the Comm Games in 1990, I think he was already 31 then!! In the break with Graeme Fowler (NZL) and Scott Goguen (CAN)....outnumbered, the little Canadian bloke attacked through the feed so the sheep-shaggers couldn't get thier bidons. It was a 35 degree day in Auckland, so the race radio was imploring people who lived on the route to come out with the garden hoses and spray their boys as they came through.

Miller retired in 2002 with a back injury.

His presence at a race or fun ride pretty much guaranteed media coverage here in NZ. Since then I think you have to sleep with (or pay, or both) the media to entice them to turn up and cover an event, the exception being the two or three UCI rated events like the Tour of Southland.

Maybe it helped with aerodynamics towards the end of the career :p

I might ahve a yak to you on saturdee about this....our club jerseys need an over haul & giramondo's tell us that our 'papers' (whatever that means !!!) are just about finished, so if we're looking to redesign, now is the time to do it

Yeah...pretty much. But there's a big difference between eking out a living here and sufferring in Belgian kermesses over there and blokes who are good enough to turn pro. When the chance came up to get a "real" job, the bike got racked. I even bought an MTB and convinced myself I'd ride that....what a farken joke!

Hitchy

Too easy.

( 'Papers' for those who are interested, are the 'paper' that the inks are screened onto in reverse that act as a heat 'transfer' of sorts. This 'paper' is then fed into a heating machine that presses the paper and material together to make the print. This is what's known as 'dye sublimation printing' - the plasitic 'ink' literally becomes part of the material. Faskinatin' huh! :) )

It's Friday Waaaaahooo! And another gorgeous riding day wasted inside the office.

Tomorrow is ATABFR day, so have fun fellas (except that badass sacman, who will be playing a poncy game of cricket: may the golden duck of death look down on you and enchant your blade with nicks and glances :p ) I'll turn the morning ride into an unofficial ATABFR event up here in Gosford.

I expect to see some highly embarrassing photo's posted on Sunday from you blokes :D

Hitchy 11-25-04 07:37 PM

......gee standing out in the midde of a ground, in the stinking heat, waiting for some bloke to chuck a hard ball at ya head......or meeting some new blokes, doing a cruisey ride, whilst perving on the local 'wildlife' yapping over a caffeine or 2....hmmm.....can't decide.......i'll get back to ya on that one!

I'll be there with bells on. I'll also bring the Digital Camera to capture the moments. I'm gunna hook up with you blokes at Le Nicks at 1.30 and then ride back to St.Kilda for latte's and banter.

lol. As an aside, I've got a mate from Bathurst who moved down to Melbourne (friggin rekons it's the best city in the world now and does all sorts of poncey things like playing golf at Kingston Heath, buying a boat etc) and talks and writes exactly like Hitchy (even with all the rediculous dots when his brain falls out of gear like Hitchy). If I didn't know better I'd say Hitchy and he are one in the same. (can't be though, he rekons the only good bike has a whacking great motor in it). :)

Hitchy 11-25-04 09:13 PM

Oi....that'll be enough cheek outta the hillbilly contingent! :D.......went to bathurst once for that bloody race...'78 I think.....mate bought a '69 HB torana specially for the trip for $500 2 days before.....predictably ended in tears....bloody thing blew up doing 91mph down conrod straight on the Saturdee......decided to hitch home!......got as far as Blaney & slept in the station waiting room...bloody coldest place on earth...a train woke us up the next morning, so we just got on (no ticket folf at blaney)...had no idea where it was going, but anywhere was better than Blaney....anyway, it ended up being Sydney.....got to the turnstyle with no ticket & just told the guy we got on at some joint 2 stops before....blaney to Sydney for $0.70!!.....the rest is an even longer story!

Ugg. Blayney is a hole. Lucky you didn't wake up next morning in bed with some moustacheoed sheila and a ring on yer finger. 91 mph down Conrod on the Saturday? Good effort. If you could even get on the track on Saturday these days you'd be locked up quicker than you could say "Johnsons a w4nker!".

back in those days, it was an open road except when they were actually racing or practising...from memory it was a 60 zone & coppers were everywhere...dunno how we didn't get booked!

Hey Sacc, ever seen video of yourself batting? Very interesting experience.

We all talk about Mark Waugh, etc etc, looking graceful, so haven't you wondered what you look like?

When I made the dreaded comeback, me and a couple of me tragic mates set up a camera
at the nets, and taped ourselfs. When we played it back, each of us was mesmerized as we watched ourselves....very interesting.

badsac 11-25-04 09:56 PM

Well yes and no. Back a few years back before I got sick of travelling to Orange for first grade the local television station used to tape the cricket for the news. In one game they video taped me getting out caught behind of my thighpad and showed it on the news. While the shot itself looked nice and stylish, the indignant posing I did as the decision was given against me, didn't look so flash. :p

But yeah I'd be interested to see what I looked like. The pictures I've had taken of me in the paper all looked pretty stylish, but I'm sure I could learn a few things if I watched some of my batting for a while.
