Ooo. So the test wont be at the MCG this year after all. Excellent. You'd think you silly victorians would know better than to go diggin up a sporting monument not long before one of the biggest sporting events of the year.

...oops....& then Tiger could hold seminars titled 'everything's crap but Steel & titanium'....or 'how to name your steel or titanium creation something unpronouncable'......or even 'convincing hitchy to buy lightweight brakes he doesn't need (but wants badly!)'...........

Mate, 'Thylacine' is as Aussie and pronouncable as...err.....Uluru!! I won't have a bad word spoken about it! I swear.....pistols at dawn to any fukka that.....grrrr...

:)

Man, you have to admit though, those brakes are the chi-chi must-have accessory of the year. :) Not a smidge of carbon anywhere to be seen, either! ;)

And here I was saying to myself....."now, let's be sensible with this bike, it's just to get you fit and pump out the miles....no unnecessary expenditure here mate, you're too poor".....

wattsy_rules 11-11-04 12:15 AM

Just came back from doing some stuff outside and apart from having a job interview, I dropped past Bicycle Recyclers and bought my daughters first bike. It's a PINK bike with trainers, tassles on the hadle bars and a lovely basket. It is second hand and will take me about an jour to clean up to almost brand new. I paid a princely sum of $45 for the bike...Mmmmm, I think I've found a new outlet to spend all my money!

wattsy_rules 11-11-04 12:23 AM

BTW, in cse anyones interested. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....e=STRK:MESE:IT

Any of you Mexicans know what sort of bike Chip Goodyear (CEO of BHP) rides?

I read in the paper yesterday that he rode to work every day in the last year.

MAAAAAATE...I live there!! I've spent about $7000 there in the last five years, and that's without
buying a bike......just parts: frames, tyres, etc.

I thought I'd drag this one up again for you 531Aussie.

Now that I've had time to play (about 500km) on the thing and get used to all the changes in technology I can say that it's a fantastic little bike. No real troubles aside from some minor teething problems and that ultra-thin paint. I'll prolly replace the seat next week because its still aggravating Mr Perineum, though not as much now that I've adjusted setup for the umpteenth time.

The 105 gear is very smooth, much to my surprise. The non-105 brakes are also very impressive since I adjusted them to my liking rather than the LBS guy's preferred setting. They are especially good in the pouring rain. I've never been on a bike where caliper brakes actually work properly in the rain :)

So the Gitane Mach 1800 is well worth every cent of $1500, but I see some all Ultegra (9s) Mach 2200's for just over $2200: now that's a bloody bargain. Same frame, better running gear. I might just skip down to the local and put one on lay-buy before the 2005 (10s) version comes in at a higher price. Maybe the missus wont notice a shiny new white and yellow bike on the garage wall... waddya reckon saccy? :D

Are you still gunna change the spokes?

Anything significant about the 21st? Can we postpone it a week so I can drool all over Ed's

Not immediately, on account of NO MONEY. I'll wait until that first POINNNNGGG sound, and then I will know for sure that it is time. :)

Black spokes are a dangerous thing at 4:30am in the pouring rain. Drivers don't see you properly in those conditions, but with black spokes there even less shiny stuff to catch their eye. I almost got creamed at a little roundabout (ridiculous fargin devices they are) on Wednesday. Thank {insert deity of your choice here} that I was only cruising at E1. And yes I have a bright light on the front, but apparently drivers can't see that either. I'm thinking of hiring one of those spotlights on a trailer that you see outside movie theatres every so often. That might werk :D

I can only but laugh, not in a callous way, more in the manner of someone who has found enlightenment in pot and a nitrous filled room. :roflmao:
