Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yeah...what is so disappointing. Same here. Below freezing today as I write this.
Last march I was on my roadbike in short sleeve kit riding along. Pretty astonishing how warm it was.
Funny I remember passing a very hot chick on a bike last year in March and remarked to her...it felt like summer.
By contrast, it feels like f-ing January here...and no break out in sight...just gradual warming. Hoping for some mid 50 weather in April.

Yea, I was gonna start another ranting thread about cold, but I will just rant in here !

It is getting to me. The cold. Day after day after day of getting up at 5 in the morning, psyching myself up, crack open the chemical warmers, gear up, ride, and come back with frozen frost bitten fingers and ice in my water bottle I am mentally burnt out. Took pretty much the entire week off from riding. When will we be actually comfortable being outside on the bike ? Where is that 65 degree morning and 85 degree afternoons ??? But then on another note .. Do we really want warmer weather ? The hope .. The warmth ? Only to be slammed by cold again ? Or should the spring and summer just be cancelled, and move on to another hallowen and keep going on with winter ? !!!!

- End of Rant and End of thread hijack !!!

Bikes: Yes, I ride an aluminum Trek!

Wisconsin here; clear roads is what I'm praying for. As long as the sun's out the ice/snow will melt and milder temps will assist. Crashing in icy/snowy roads is no fun. Like many here I've learned to deal with the cold, but I'm anxiously waiting for milder temps and dressing with less layers.

It's been cold here too, but I can deal with cold. I rode outside all winter. What's killing me is that it's cold, cloudy, and the wind has been 15+mph every day for the past two weeks. I'll go on the group ride tomorrow morning, but every time I think about going out solo, I end up going to the gym instead

I live in Southern California and I have to say that all you idiots bragging about our weather to these people in colder climates have no heart at all. My family lives in Manchester, England and I even resist telling them the truth about our fall and winter weather here. I feel for all you people waiting for the sunshine to get your bikes and warm weather gear back on the roads...almost there.

We are the same here... we have had almost two weeks of constant wind of 15+ mph with gusting up to 30 mph. The other day I got almost blown off the bike twice, and when I got home and checked the weather, the wind gust was up to 45 mph. I can deal with cold, up to a point (like in the teens) but am so sick of the wind...

You know it is only March in the northern hemisphere ... it's not June yet.

When I go fishing in June there will be 5-10 feet of ice piled on the shores. But that's pretty normal for the north. Then we will have two decent months before it starts freezing again.
Al Gore promised me warming and I want to hold him to it

Yeah, exactly ... so if there will still be some ice and snow in June, of course there's going to be ice and snow in March.

Sounds like you really need to take a pt job to save some money to take a month in a warmer climate sometime between November and March. Doing that really helped me from going completely crazy when I lived in Canada.

I pay $$$ for the privilege of living in a climate where I can boast about the weather. I suffered enough in cold weather, it is my reward.

I did wear my long riding pants 6-7 times this past "winter". The agony.

The other thing I did when I lived in Canada was to get into cross-country skiing and snowshoeing ... if you can't beat winter, join it.

Bikes: 1975 motobecane Grand jubilee, and a rescued 1984 Raliegh Marathon, that my daughter is using at college

The cliche around here is "You don't like the weather? stick around, it'll change." Tomorrow we might see 45. Sunday they're calling for 6 to 10 inches of snow.

We’ve been about 15 deg. below normal for the last month. I was riding in 35 deg weather today, should be about 50.I always hated March because I think that it should be the beginning of spring; it’s really the end of winter.

I was beginning to feel sorry for myself until some of you reminded that there is a Canada. Summer will be nice, you just have to be in town that weekend. Scout camp had a mo-skeet activity – trap using 22s. Do Canadians have moskeeter shooting?

I used to live in Minneapolis for about 5 years. Winters were about 6 weeks longer than what I was used to in Iowa. The saving grace was that there was enough snow to actually enjoy winter sports. X-C skiing, snow shoeing, broomball, etc. It didn’t surprise me to see inter-scholastic X-C skiing, but I still haven’t recovered from the shock of girls ice hockey.

I hear ya, man. It's some seriously bull****. I'm hopeful that April will come in and we'll have an instant transition to summer weather.

Spring is in full bloom here in AZ.

The aroma of orange blossoms fills the air I breath, and the desert is so green it looks like a fairway at Augusta.

Exactly, we've had a beautiful spring so far.

I always thought that Spring started on March 21.

Langhorne, Pa. Northeast part: 27 degree's F, sunny, slight wind must do another 23 miles. Did 20 last night after work, 36 F, windy.
My front derailure (Sram Red) came loose at 17 miles and binded up chain..........unclipped, jury rigged a fix to get home and took it off. I don't really use a frnt d for my rides anyway.
