Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Not here.

Of course the sun is out now so maybe soon.

Is there a way to get BF to just show the full size image if uploading from a computer (i.e. not hosting somewhere)? It always does the mini attachment.

Here, we had a mild winter...now in March, when it usually starts warming up, it's been cold and windy...and we're expecting snow!! Thought I'd be riding a few times a week by now....but I've been riding less this month than in January and February!

Actually I was reading an article that stated the cause of the colder temperatures prolonging into spring here in the US was actually because of global warming. It had something to do with the weather in Greenland being warmer than usual and affecting the jetstream. Now the jetstream is bringing in the cold air from Canada over most of the US, where as before when Greenland stayed cold at this time of the year it would push the jetstream to bring in our warmer air. Hope this is not the new norm....

I too am growing very impatient. I do the cold rides, but I feel like I've been counting the days since winter started and now it's just plain unfair...with 1-3 of snow forecasted for Tuesday here in NJ. Fortunately the last few snow falls have disappeared within a few days.

In Palo Alto, CA the weather is improving so spring is pretty much here.

Bikes: See Signature...

I bought a new bike this year, so spring will take longer to get to me. Last year by this time I already had something like 60 miles in, because last winter was hardly more than a long colder fall!

I don't ride if its under 50 anyway. Too cold and cycling is about t-shirts and shorts to me. I can deal with a jacket or sweatshirt, but has to be warm enough for shorts. Same reason I prefer fishing when its 70 or warmer out!

Bikes: are better than yours.

Normal temperatures by the end of the week? Can it be so?

Blah.
-27 this morning.
At least it not snowing. I was riding last year at this time. That is not the norm, but then neither is this.

Funny when it's hot, some people say it's global warming. Then when it's cold, the same say global warming.

Wonder if they know the term "average"?

Starting to dry up a bit here in Quebec but there is salt, dirt and potholes on the side of the roads. Took out my hybrid with fenders on the weekend and came home filthy. Won't be taking out the road bike for a few more weeks.

They'll probably claim that plain-old math doesn't work after Y2K..... "Ya gotta use a fancy Al-Gore-rhythm"....

He's wrong, it's actually about 0.7 degrees, but over half of that warming has occurred since 1979. Sure, it's an inexact science, you can't go back a 100 years ago and get representative measurements from various parts of the globe, but still, something alarming is definitely happening, there's no denying the trends.

Smug people are particularly risible and ripe for satire when they're wrong.

That's about the time Al Gore invented the internet and all the power consumed heated up the air

I would prefer warmer weather at this point, but you have to embrace what you get. Thanks to rare early spring snow in Northern Virginia, I was able to test out the new winter riding boots I picked up on sale from Nashbar two weeks ago. I thought those would sit on a shelf for nine or ten months before I would find out if they worked or not.

After enduring 3-4 month of harsh weather after moving to the north, I would jump at a Sunny, 40 degree day with <15 mph wind.

But yeah, why isn't it warming up yet? Really hope it is not going to be a searing summer. Cuz, you know, nature tend to balance things out...

Still have about 30" left to melt here! Had quite a few miles on by this time last year.

We have been 10 degrees F below normal for a week or two now here in Eastern WA. The forecast is for 70 degrees on Friday. It would be nice to ride without a jacket finally. I hate layering. Can never get it right. Either too hot or too cold.

I figure I have another 3 weeks up here before I am comfortable riding outdoors. Winter.....I hate winter.

We're having another hot spell. Today reached 26.5C and tomorrow is supposed to be even warmer. At the end of March!! We've had such a long hot summer and autumn.
