Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Is it normal or just me

Ok Before i start lets me say I have asked my Dr on the issue. Just wondering if others have the same issue. After an hard training session I Get low blood pressure low pulse rate and feel like dirt for about an hour or so. Dr said it is due to the hard effort I train at and athletes have lower pulse and blood pressure than normal people. does anyone else have the issue and does anything help.

No idea about blood pressure but the more you train the lower your resting heart rate will be which is a good thing.

Yeah you're supposed to feel like dirt after training hard, otherwise you didn't train hard lol. That feeling could also be low blood sugar from the hard ride. You feel better after an hour because you refueled, correct?

Immediately after a hard training ride, I say yes on low blood pressure, but no on low heart rate. For a couple of hours after a hard ride, my heart rate actually stays in the 90s. Then it slowly goes down to normal - 58bpm - usually overnight (if afternoon ride). It's been like this ever since I can remember.

Just like yesterday, I rode 80K and did 3x hill repeats to end it (1.5K climbs each). My legs were like rubber at the end, it was hard walking up stairs. I'm in the middle of renovating my son's room, so I did some drywalling right about 30 minutes after the ride. I would get dizzy going from a squatting position (cutting up corner beads) to a standing position. Lasted about an hour. I've measured it and know it's due to low blood pressure. This morning, it's still on the low-ish side, 105/70 but it's creeping up to my usual 120/80.

Blood pressure drops way below normal after very hard exertion. It is commonly seen after a treadmill stress test. That effect can be coupled with the dehydration, carb depletion, and electrolyte loss that has been recently discussed on another thread to make you feel the way you do. Get your electrolytes and hydration back to normal ASAP and get some carbs to eat. Everything helps.

Just how low are we talking? How does that compare to your normal resting BP and HR? If you push hard you are going to have a bit of a recovery period following a ride. If you are getting light headed, passing out, or having heart palpitations, further evaluation is needed.

When you finish your "hard effort", do you just stop, or do you do a cool down?

I am slightly hypertensive but after a hard ride my blood pressure can be 70/something. Crazy low for me. My heart rate is normally elevated after a hard ride.
