Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Crossroads bike - Can I tour on that!?

OK, we're mountain bikers. We purchased 2 Specialized Crossroads bikes 2 months ago to have something to ride when we aren't on a trail. We love them - good for road, commuting, and very light trails (a crossover bike). We see all of these 25 mile+ tours all over and would love to do one, but obviously we don't have a "road" bike. Can you enter these type of tours (the short versions of every tour event), with the bikes we have? Or do we look like complete idiots if we do? Our goal is to enjoy the tour, not be the first one across the finish line. And we don't plan on getting road bikes anytime soon since we have mountain and crosstours. Thoughts?

No Problem ... go fot it. That bike is fine for 25 miles.
With any bike, make sure it's set up well first, and bring along spare tubes and pump/co2

I did several organized rides last year on a Trek Allant (upright, city, comfort bike), and while I was one of the only people out of thousands not on a road bike, I still had a ton of fun.

Do it!

You can tour on anything that you can ride comfortably.
