Anzac Day Ride
Happy Anzac Day ... did you get out for a ride on your day off?
Rowan put wider tires with more tread on them onto our Touring bicycles, and we set off on our on-going exploration of the local Rail Trail. We have ridden little parts of this new, long trail, but today we decided to go a bit longer. Today we rode from our town to the next town 38 km away, then to another really small town, and back.
The Rail Trail has a few long relatively gradual climbs, starting with one right from our town, topping 6 km up the trail at a scenic overlook ... looking at the nearby mountain range. The next climb, a little further down the road, is 8 km and tops with an old train tunnel built in the late 1800s. And there are several smaller climbs here and there as well, so the trail provides some variety.
It is rather unfortunate that the whole trail is gravel ... that provides something of a rough ride and now my arms are sore ... but the general condition of the trail is quite good. And the scenery is beautiful.
All up ... 89.53 km on a wonderful autumn day.

Well, I was in Anzac Cove (Gallipoli) the day before. It was a nice ride, but a little crowded

Was a fantastic turnout for the Dawn Service and the mid-morning ceremony in my home town - lots of people of all generations came out to recognise the sacrifices of our Diggers!
I also managed to get a 50Km loop in after the Dawn Service (then, I had an excuse to enjoy my beers!), so it was a great day.
cheers
