Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

8 speed chain size

I have a 39/53 front set up and 13/26 on the back. I need to buy a new chain as I had a 13/23 on the back. Most chains I see out there (SRAM/Shimano) are 114L. Will this fit? I have a Shimano 105 short cage RD.

thanks

Do it, do it.

(yes, but you will need to cut it to fit dependent on your seat stay length in addition to ring sizes.)

Chains come "out of the box" to fit anybody's bike -- i.e., there are more than enough links on a standard chain to fit your gearing setup. For optimal shifting though, you need to size the chain for your gearing.

There are multiple ways of determining optimal chain length. I've always gone with "wrap the chain around the big chainring, the big rear gear, draw it tight, and add two links" (bypass the rear derailleur if you do this).
