Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Tire Recommendation

Hello,

I am planning on changing the tires on my bike, starting to show some wear.
The current tires are Vittoria Rubino Slick clincher 23 mm, which tire would you recommend?
I don't know exactly what to expect from a new tire so.....fire away with what you think is best.

Thanks in advance

I can't really say it was my first real road bike/tire.
I would guess something with low rolling resistance.

I'm not a racer, I don't really care about speed, I'm just out and about enjoying a bike ride...but that doesn't mean I don't keep track of my rides via strava. After yesterday and this morning's rides...I have 10 new PRs.

I can't say it's all in the tires as I'm getting stronger the more I ride, but damn, these tires ride nice! I can certainly tell a difference compared to the stock hutchinson equinox tires that were on before.

Maxxis Re-Fuse. Light, great puncture resistance, folding, 120 PSI.

If you're worried about puncture resistance, Conti GP 4000S. If not, Schwalbe Ultremo ZX.

Any tire from a major brand that's about 205 to 215g will serve you well. Go under 205g and the tire is likely to last only a short while unless the roads you ride are very good, and/or you are a very careful rider.

I've tried various versions of the Vittoria Rubino, some Specialized tires in that weight range, I like the Continental GP 4000, and I like the GP4000s.
