In the drawn out process of packing up, I move our bikes out of the garage temporarily. And they aren't all of them! There was a fixie, a tandem and an old postman's bike that adds to the collection. Some of the bikes are in various stages of rebuild.

But when we say we have 15 bikes between the two of us, we mean it. And there are four MTB frames, two bike trailers and plans for a couple of folders and a couple of high-wheel recumbent bikes.

We like our bikes.

15 bikes per rider is more fun.
What is a high wheel recumbent? Do you mean short wheelbase?

He made it. In jeans (or lookalike jeans) and a T no less.

I like the guy's style -- turn up in your casuals for a world first, and appear to just get on with the job.

Actually, High Racer is the proper term. Both wheels are 700C or 26", with either above or below seat steering. Our friend in Paris and occasional poster in the Touring forum, claire, has a Performer, made in Taiwain.

Here's one of their pages:

http://www.performer.com.tw/2010/use...03412413&wp=05

They also make some neat Ti ones. I'd be happy with one of the aluminium ones.

Clare has done several PBPs, one DF one recumbent. She felt much, much better at the finish on the bent. That sort of sold me on them. She still tours, however, on a DF...

hrm. last night's dinner was grilled wild caught Copper River Salmon with a pineapple soy glaze. Served over jasmine rice. A glass of Tank 7 Farmhouse Ale accompanied.

BillyD 06-24-13 06:02 AM

Yum, love salmon.

I had grilled bacon-wrapped beef filet, home grown kale, vintage 2012, and baked mac n' cheese. Quite tasty all around.

Grrrrrrrr... MONDAY!!!

I hop in my car this morning and my gas gauge shows .6 gallons. That would be cutting it close for my 25 mile commute, so I stop for gas. The pump verrrry sloooooooowly reaches $1.60 and stops. I get the manager and he opens up some panel on the pump to reset it... still nothing. So I move to another pump. This one sloooooooowly reaches $1.21 and stops. At this point I'm running late so I figure I'll just finish filling up at lunchtime, and I drive off.

A few blocks later, I look down and my gas gauge shows .6 gallons. WTF???

rjones28 06-24-13 07:14 AM

Uh oh.

Slow pumps are always trouble.

That's weird, man. Someone is telling you to commute by bike. Do it.

Do you have a newfangled digital gas gauge? Takes the fun out of driving on fumes >:-)

I would LOVE to commute by bike. Unfortunately the Tampa Bay is between my home and my office, and the shortest "bicycle friendly" route is about 35 miles each way.

(And I made it to work with .2 gallons left.)

Surely a little HTFU would mitigate the 70 miles? Do it twice a week!

I hear tell they even make outfits that can be worn for both swimming and biking. Running too, even, should one be so inclined.

This one's a keeper. Maybe my best song yet. Lyrics were tough. 6 hours on those.

When You're Gone

When you left me
I was waiting for your final answer
You made it clear
Without a word

You spelled it out in all your
Elegant cursive handwriting
Which made it
All the more absurd

Guess you’re driving on that super highway
I’m sure by now you’re almost halfway home

Go to someplace where you’re happy baby
I knew somehow you’d be movin on
I won’t spend a lifetime crying for this broken love
But I will not forget you when you’re gone

It was comin
I knew it was my turn to hear it
I’ve always been
The one to leave

Everything is fair in love and war
At least that’s what they tell you
At least the part
you can believe

So I guess you turned those tables on me
Cause this time the broken heart is mine

Go to someplace where you’re happy baby
I knew somehow you’d be movin on
I can’t hold you down if you have to fly away
But I will not forget you when you’re gone

All the memories you left me baby
That’s the part of you that stays
You left me here with something I can hold and I can keep forever
Something to have for all my days

When you left me
I was waiting for your final answer
You really made it
Clear as day

I still love you after
You have left and you have hurt me baby
Even since
You went away

Maybe I can try to let you go
Hold onto some parts of you I love

Go to someplace where you’re happy baby
I knew somehow you’d be movin on
My broken heart needs mending and I know it has to heal
But I will not forget you when you’re gone

When You're Gone (Ode to SA)

When you left me...

FIFY. We know you miss him.

Needs a "do wop, do wop" in there somewhere.

Leave Italian Americans out of this.

That part is true. Nobody here is nearly as crazy as he was.

Learned this morning that I'm up to being ranked 118th in my age group in the country in triathlon, and 3rd in my age group in the country in aquathlon (there are a total of 14 of us in my AG for that sport, so don't be too impressed at that one).
