Is there any gluten in sweet corn? I'm thinking of using it as riding food.

Dominicans roll the crepes too tightly.

How often do y'all get up at dawn to start your ride?

I think in Taiwan it is the best time, since the midday sun is a bit much. Yet I have failed to wake up early enough each time. Wish me luck for tomorrow.

Good luck.

At least in the Northeast, roofing costs are roughly 25% labor, 25% material, and 50% insurance and comp costs. There are plenty of white guys doing roofing, along side many other races. However, roofing is great work for someone who is below board, and is not paying insurance, as they can pay the same for labor and still blow competitive bids out of the water. Many of those crews here have no specific ethnicity. Then there are the guys that undercut the undercutters, by not only avoiding insurance costs, but paying subpar labor rates. Then you start seeing more ethnic patterns.

i don't care who they are, as long as they do a good job and our roof doesn't leak anymore.

and i have a lot of respect for hispanic/latino workers. they work hard, and often get stuck doing really difficult work.

Corn on the cob or sweet corn niblets —shouldn't contain any gluten, as long as the corn was protected from cross contamination with gluten while it was being processed and prepared.

Speaking of construction, I bought a bunch of cedar today - building a compost bin. We'll see what the boy'll let me get done today.

If you aim carefully, the butter drips can lube your chain while you ride.

i've had some mild concerns about this. we were told we're paying more to have extra insurance and a crew that follows osha standards for the difficulty. the company we hired, at least for roofing, does the sales part and then they have 3 or so companies they work with to do the labor. so we have to trust that they pick reputable partners. the company that sold us the roof has a really good reputation though, and we didn't go for the cheapest possible option knowing a little bit how that works.

so far the only thing i've overheard is that they're a little grouchy about the number of layers for the tear off. they were told 2, but it's at least 3 over the main part, and 1 on the addition and the dormer.

Meanwhile, Knoxville beefing up MUP patrols. Note the bridge in the background.

Are we supposed to be taking pics of bridges? I'll take one tomorrow's ride.

When I was crew leader for a company that cleaned model homes and their associated realty offices I'd always request Hispanics on my team. White kids are generally lazy and can't clean house for ****.

Your mayor seems nice. Did you vote for her?

datlas 06-07-13 10:26 AM

TS, you gonna post pics of the roof? Ideally would be good to see before/after.

datlas 06-07-13 10:27 AM

That Hirame pump head looks pretty slick....very tempting. My Joe Blow pump is ok but has a minor leak/hiss that is slightly annoying....

WhyFi 06-07-13 10:30 AM

i took some "before" shots this morning when the dumpster arrived. i stepped outside to get a "during" but got shy when i think i surprised them that someone was actually home (i had talked to the guys that were here early, but this is a completely different crew).

they're about halfway done with the tear off, and the chimney is coming down now.
