Did you go lighter than what you had? When I had mine done we went from a dark brown to a light gray. I just can't see having a dark roof in south Texas.

It's a 30-day ban. Breathe.

not quite. it's a grey-brown. brown-brown was too... brown. didn't look good with the yellow, and grey is a little too cold. driftwood is kind of in between and even has a tiny bit of yellow flecks in it.

it's about the same tone color-wise, maybe a shade darker? they didn't get to the overhang on the porch so i can see side to side it's not much different. the old roof had a very slight bit of green in it. the layer before that was green, and before that, was an orangey-rusty-brown that was hexagon shaped.

i don't know how long the siding has been yellow. there's a layer of grey paint under the yellow that might just be primer. it's a pity that someone decided to paint the cedar. it's so pretty in its natural state and such a pain in the ass to maintain painted wood siding.

awesome. the birds are already trying to destroy it. there's a small flock of them trying to break in again. this morning they were sitting, staring at the corner where their nest used to be.

Our house has cedar shake siding. The previous owner did some work on the back side of the house and had the siding redone on that side. The other 3 sides are painted white. The painted stuff looks like it's going to need a real good scraping if we're going to repaint, so we might just redo those three sides, too... of course, we have other places to spend money on the house, right now, too...

The house sparrow is afforded no legal protection by federal statutes.

yep. cedar apparently can't be water or media blasted because it's so porous and can be damaged by that sort of aggressive treatment, so we scrape. when the paint starts to fail though, it falls off in big chunks. we might also have an issue with moisture getting behind the siding, and when it tries getting out through the shakes, it weakens the paint. i'm not sure if that's a common issue, but painting cedar shake is generally a dumb idea. we've both agreed though that we don't want to destroy the character of the house by residing it with something else.

it looks like the halfassers who lived here before us had someone do a quick spray bomb to spruce it up, but didn't scrape the old layers off beforehand making an even bigger mess. much like their decision to just keep adding layers of roof instead of tearing the old ones off.

We're in a similar boat - they layers of paint have, at this point, filled in many of the slender gaps between shingles. Oh well, maybe after making the yard relaxing and enjoyable, putting up a garage, replacing a couple appliances, etc.

Nobody likes them really, except virulent tree huggers and maybe the aclu types.

A larger "No Parking, You Will Be Towed, yadda, yadda" sign seems to be helping - no one has parked in since it went up about a week ago. I'll have my cedar compost bins out there soon (after I make 'em), so that should make it even harder for someone to delude themselves in to thinking that it's okay to park there.

What an amazing morning here in Vancouver, USA!

Helped the little lady set up her tent for the Master Composter/Recycler program @ the farmer's market, grabbed a coffee, hit the MUP on the Fuji Blvd.

AMAZING scenery on the MUP this morning, hot joggers galore!

Interesting tidbit in here about how American kids near Vancouver have to go through Canada to go to school.
