Some guy in Texas did this with a nest of Africanized bees and got stung so many times it killed him. Scary.

I don't get why people build such steep roofs.

You've probably never shoveled a foot of snow off your roof.

Correct. That sounds really dumb. It's dangerous enough up there when the surface is dry.

If you're talking about the waco farmer. The bees were in a unused chicken coop that he bumped into with his tractor.

That's why you have a steep pitch in the snow belt. The snow slides off rather than just sitting there and eventually leaking.

they're still here. they've had about a 12 hour day by now. i hope they get overtime. they're cleaning up, but there are still a couple details that someone else will have to come back and finish tomorrow. this crew has to be at a different house in the morning.

It's a common theme in the Alps of Europe.

It also makes the attic space much more usable. Roofs with lower pitches make half the floor space unusable. Again, a European design feature because the cattle lived on the ground floor, and their body heat permeated up to the middle and uppermost storeys.

correct. we don't have to shovel our roof. it also gives us a couple rooms worth of second floor living space instead of unusable attic. for such a tiny footprint, we actually have a lot of room. at least for two people with no kids.

yeah, what he said... except we don't keep cattle on the first floor.
