Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Cramping in Cold Ride

Did 80 km last night in rain, wind, and near freezing temps. Lots of cramping, pain, muscle twitches and overall a crappy bad discouraging ride. In pain today with pulled calf muscle and general soreness. Does Epsom salts really work? Any suggestions?

What about the day after cramping? Heat, stretching? Red wine?

After bad cramping I try to drink as much water with electrolytes like Nuun as possible. Next day I take it easy and just spin. Red wine probably has the opposite effect, but a glass or two never hurt me the next day.

Bikes: Lots

Even if it is cold, you still need to drink the same amount as you do when it is warm.

As for the day after ... drink lots, consume some electrolytes, take a hot bath and stretch carefully in the tub.
