OP, I just solved a click with very similar symptoms - it was worse under load, and worse the longer I rode. I could even recreate it with my hand applying light pressure to the drive-side crank arm. I was convinced it was the crank or BB. But, when I used a mechanic's stethoscope, to my surprise it appeared to be louder towards the rear of the chainstay. This had me stumped, but I decided on a hunch to slightly increase the tension on all my rear wheel spokes - just 1/8 turn each. That was it! The noise completely disappeared. When I was test pushing on the crank with my hand, I was stressing the rear wheel and "popping" the noisy spoke.
So, my advice is try a different wheel, if that's easy to do. Also, try using a mechanic's stethoscope. Good luck, I've battled like 5 creaks on multiple bikes over the last 6 months, and I know it can be terribly frustrating (and ruin rides).

thanks for that advice! I'm planning on taking my wheels in to have service this weekend anyway (I have free servicing for a year after buying them). Hopefully after a full service, she will take care of that for me then.

You may also want to slightly increase the torque on your headset top cap.

You may also want to inspect your headset stack, specifically if you are running multiple carbon spacers. Under heavy load, they can rub/shift and click - I had this problem on my CAAD10. I've ordered a larger single spacer to minimize/eliminate this noise.

My vote is the BB30 or you're getting old and the noises are coming from you

I had a click like this too, would always happen when the right pedal was in the 2 o'clock position, I could feel it with my right foot so I was sure it was pedal related. I took the pedal apart, greased the sleeve bearing and tightened it. Still clicked but was better for a few dozen miles the came back , always under load and worse at the end of my ride. I just decided the pedal was defective - I had it just a few months. I think there was a crack somewhere that opened up as it heated and got more pressure on the hills on the tail of my ride. I replaced the pedals with the original platform pedals and it silenced the click but was not sure if it was because I could not pull up as I could with the clicking SPD ones. I bought a better pair, put them on and the click went away.

I have a very annoying sound that I finally found by accident. The zipper pull on my jersey was banging around.
Another thing that can do that is the cleats. You might swap those out too.

I just went through this exact thing. I tried all the things you mentioned too. For me, relief came from padding my cables that touched the head tube. It's ugly now but I'll make it look better soon once I am 100% sure that is what was causing the ticking. I've had four quiet rides in a row and I am in heaven. I am only throwing this out there because it's the only thing that hasn't been said yet, and who knows, maybe it's your problem too.

hmmm, I'll take a look at that. I can feel it in my left foot, not sure if a cable would be the cause of that, but I'll look. thanks

You only think you feel it in your foot. At this point your mind is playing tricks on you. I know. I've been there. It must be the seat. I feel it in my butt. No it's not the seat. I feel it in the bars. It must be the headset. No it's not the headset. And so on and so on. You know what I am talking about. Good luck!

I did not have this exact problem but something similar. In my case the rear hub needed to be overhauled. When you take your wheels for service will they check the hubs as well as spoke tension/trueness?

I had a similar situation with my BB30 crankset. It was fixed by removing the cranks, re-greasing and then torqueing to spec which was something like 50nm. I had m LBS do it since I don't own a torque wrench of that size. Refer to a manual for your setup. Fixed the issue and now no more creak/click noise.

only things left to check that I can think of are wheels (which I will be taking in) at which point they will service the entire wheel including tensions and hub. The crankset and the pedals themselves. Will ask my buddy if I can barrow his for a quick ride.
I'm glad so many of you understand my frustration! thanks guys

You said you have the BOA shoes, but I had this exact problem, ended up the little plastic end of my shoelace was hitting the chainstay.

Its not the shoe hitting the bike. I can replicate it while looking down.
