Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Need a good saddle for my road bike, I weigh 150 lbs. and have a small bottom, any recommendations and where to purchase?

Thank you,

Bikes: Davidson Impulse, Merckx Titanium AX, Bruce Gordon Rock & Road, Cross Check custom build, On-One Il Pomino, Shawver Cycles cross, Zion 737, Mercian Vincitore, Brompton S1L, Charge Juicer

Find a shop with a demo program or just accept that it's largely a trial and error process.

Also, other fit considerations are huge factors in your comfort level in the saddle.

You need to find shops with a trial program or you need disposable income (or both). I do think it's extremely important to give a trial saddle an decent opportunity; it's equally important to understand the cause/effect of saddle height, fore/aft position and tilt. I'm sure many on this board, myself included, have rejected what could have been the perfect saddle due to inexperience in getting the saddle adjusted. Good luck!

One thing you can measure objectively in regards to picking an appropriate saddle is to measure your sit bones. You can google DIY methods, or go to a bike-shop which has one of those machines which measure them for you. A smaller width between your sit bones would possibly dictate the need for a narrower saddle (132mm, for example).

Other than that, trying out used saddles from a place like eBay is a more affordable option until you find one you like.

I'd recommend checking out Cobb Cycling. I've used their Plus saddle for a few seasons and just switched to the Gen 2. Both were great saddles for me.

Also, Cobb has a good exchange program if you try a model and find that it doesn't work for you.

Thanks, I think I will look into the Cobb saddles. The Max and the Gen 2 interest me.

Thank you,
Specialized has a 30-day program within which you can return for another Specialized saddle until you find the one you want. Among the many models including Toupe, Romin, Romin EVO, Phenom, and others and the available width of 130/143/155/168mm, I am sure you will find the one that fits you.

Personally, all my bikes now have the Romin EVO.

Like dalava, I'm delighted with my Romin EVO. Of course, YMMV depending on a number of factors. I'm 5'8", 130ish, and the 143 has worked just fine for me.
