I had never heard of Lizard Skins until reading this thread so I just looked it up. Yup. P.T.Barnum was right. There is a sucker born every minute. You can buy good looking, completely serviceable bar tape for under $10 and the majority of doofuses posting on this thread think spending $30-40 a pop for overrated plastic tape makes sense. If ever there was a case of more money than brains, this has to be it. It's bar tape! You wrap your bars. They get sweaty. They get dirty. So you do it again as cheaply as you can. It ain't rocket science. Lizard Skins! I have to remember that for when I'm looking for way to squander the family inheritance. LOL

I am replying to my own post in order to apologize to any Lizard Skin devotees I may have offended. Honestly, I was just trying to have a little fun. Yes, I believe in the value principles I mentioned, but I did totally ignore the rights of everyone to make their choices and spend their money as they like in the course of some tongue-in-cheek repartee. I am sorry for that. In case you are wondering what brought this on, let me direct you to the Shimano vs. Campagnolo thread. After being subjected to Camapg4Life's incredible verbal abuse for several pages just for having a divergent opinion, I realize that civility is pretty important in this forum participation thing. Toward better behavior in the future.

Bar tape is not funny.
Bar tape is serious.
Bar tape is important as it is your primary contact point next to your ass and your feet.
Thus the answer is Cinelli. Preferably black in color.

Another vote for Lizard Skins. It lasts forever - or until you allow your brother to take your bike out and he takes it over a speed bump, crashes your bike and tears the 1 yr old 'still like new' bar tape... ;-)
p.s. - Where'd you find Lizard Skin tape for 1/2 off??

I'm on black Lizard Skins 2.5 now and its crap. Looks the biz when you first put it on (sessy even) but it has very little cushion and once it gets wet you have to hold on and pray because it then has ZERO tack and slippery once wet. I'm back to wearing gloves. Cannot recommend.
They do seem to have a cult following that works cuz they got me to try it.

However, my experience with Lizard Skins is that it is slippery when wet...especially when you might still have some sunscreen on your hands. Sunscreen + sweat + lizard skins = whoosh! However, with gloves, the hands practically stick to the tape.

There is a following and people will say that it's still tacky when wet and that you're crazy too.

And yea, does stick too well with gloves actually. Never had a problem with gloves on with other tapes so that's not saying much.
and again not much cushion in the 2.5mm, doubt the 3.x whatever version would help that. I was attracted to the tape due to claims of comfort and tackiness without wearing gloves. It doesn't live up to that and if I have to wear gloves then any tape works.

+1 on this! I use the 1.8mm thick tape myself by LS. Great stuff and has a nice tacky feel that is not sticky but just right.

I just get this stuff for $10.99, and have even gotten cheaper stuff in the past. I've never been disappointed. I put old inner tubing underneath if I want it thicker.
I bet it would be cheaper in bulk, but it is never sold that way.

Am I mean if I say I think the weird camo looking tape reminds me of 1991, but in a bad way. And the "foamy-ness" of it reminds me of the cheap bar tape that came on my Bikes Direct fixed gear that I removed immediately.
I mean, different strokes for different folks. I don't think bar tape needs to be expensive either, but at the same time I want something that makes me happy. Hence, $30 cinelli caleido tape.

I have white Specialized tape on my Roubaix. It still feels great, but after about 1 season it is pretty dirty and doesn't clean up well. All my other bikes are wrapped with Nashbar tape. Cheap and works good.

I recently started using self-fusing silicone tape, available from various hardware sellers like:
https://www.mcmaster.com/#self-fusing-tape/=nx12kh
So far, so great. Doesn't unravel, stays not too tacky and not too slippy. Cheaper than the vast majority of bike shop tapes. Unlimited length and versatility. Can be used over or under standard bike-shop bar-tapes.
Also, to the best of my knowledge, so silis and no cones are hurt in the making of the product.
