Speedplay "float"
Hello everyone,
I've been having a problem with my Speedplay pedals that I'm hoping someone could help me with. I've been feeling this up/down float on my pedals whenever I am lifting or on the upstroke while pedaling as if the contact between the pedal and cleat isn't secure. I can also move my foot/shoe from side to side because of this "float"/spacing (I don't me swivel). The reason I bring this up is because I have noticed that sometimes I don't come down flat footed on my pedals but instead on come down on the side of my foot. My question is, is there anyway to remove this "float" from my cleat/pedal? Thank you in advance for any help.

What model of Speedplay? With my Speedplay X pedals I can feel some of that 'float' when the cleat springs are getting worn out. They start out round but turn oval with time. New cleats are the answer in this case.
Light Action pedals are easier to clip in and out. They might not hold as tight when pulling up.

Your best bet might be to borrow another model or brand of pedal and see how they feel to you.

If the cleats are worn out, then new cleats could help. However this should take a few thousand miles before being worn. Plus I've never used Light Action pedals and don't really know.

I had a similar problem.
Took the cleats off, and found that the adapter plate was loose.
Tightened that up, remounted the cleats (after leaning and lubing them), and they work perfectly.
