How do I tolerate office work if I fantasize about riding too much?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Plan a ride at work. Try and make it a post work ride.
Sometimes I plan a quick route and knock some miles out. Link up some climbs. Text some folks. Or just takr the long way home.

is commuting on bicycle feasible or are you too far? too far to commute on bike leisurely for me is probably 5 miles. luckily im only 3 miles from work so i ride in most of the year. if not, maybe you can bring you bike to work and try a lunch ride. i do 2 fifteen mile lunch rides a week. you can definitely do that in an hour if your work is pretty business casual. roll up pant legs and go.

Commute to and from work by bicycle
Go for a ride at lunch
Get into racing or long distance cycling on the weekends
Do short tours on long weekends once a month
Go for a 2-3 cycling holiday a few times a year

You'll wear yourself out and be glad to be resting at work.

Imagine working shift at a factory were there is stress all the time, no pause, heavy and monotone. When you come home you are totally worn out. I'd change with you any day any time.

This thread should be re-titled "How do I tolerate work/marriage/school/socializing/eating/drinking/sleeping if I fantasize about riding too much?". I'm at a point where I can't be outside on a nice day without having anxiety about getting a chance to go for a ride (if I haven't already, and if I have, about how I should have gone for longer). This sport draws in addictive personalities. Still healthier than some of the other options, I say...

The problem is that if want to learn to hate something, do it for a living. If you become a pro, you will dream about having an office job.
