Degrees of separation from Lance Armstrong

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I once had a beer in a pub here in Kyoto with a guy who told me he rode with Hincapie and that Lance was his best friend.
A few weeks later he sent a couple of photos of him and Lance. One of him and Lance riding MTB, and one of him in the maternity ward with Lance and Lance's first wife, and he was holding Lance's baby. Maybe it's the same guy and he now has dumped Lance.

Chris Carmicheal once answered a question I posted on an online live chat in 1998. He even told me it was a good question and glad I asked about proper training for new cyclists.

Also the Motorola team rented my parents house in Belgium in the late '80's

My unlce lived in the same apartment complex as Lance in the early '90. Not sure Lance actually lived there very long, but was training out of there before the spring races. Odd that I have closer of degrees of speration to the American ledgend than the Belgian ones.

as an aside,
Just that we had chat rooms back in 1998 seems amazing, much less that Chris Carmichael was on one answering questions about training on a very new medium. Heck, I only logged onto the internet for the first time in 1994.

I've seen all of these guys in person ... didn't actually walk up and introduce myself to them (they seemed a bit busy at the time), but we watched them cycle past a couple times.

And Phil Liggett was just around the corner.

I am sitting in Starbucks sipping coffee and reading this thread while recovering from my hard ride on my Nashbar road bike, does that make me one of the guys?
