Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Used Bike clothes

I've got a ton of bike clothes I don't need. Buy two full team kits, and matching wind vest, each year, throw in the occassional event jersey, and gifts, and it adds up over the years.

Is there a way to give away bike clothes, where they can be put to good use? Typically, I'd give clothing to the Salvation Army or Goodwill, but my guess is bike clothes wouldn't find their way to people who could actually use them that way.

Does your club have a google group, email list or bulletin board that you can put a giveaway ad on?

CL has an available for free section. Or even better put the ad in the bikes for sale section so you know it will go out to other cyclists. Put up the ad and leave the gear in a box on the curb. It will disappear quickly.

The pay it forward threads are a great idea. That's how I got my first (and current) cycling shoes. They were a little beat up, but still have some life left!

Why do you say that?

If you can't find a home for your old cycling clothing, let me know.
I know a group of about 15 cyclists right across the border in Mexico.
They have a tremendous passion for the sport, but they are of very modest means.
The won't take money donations. All they ever want is our old, used, cycling clothing.

My assumption, maybe incorrectly, is that there distribution channels wouldn't be likely to get lycra jerseys to people who could use them.

They would go into a Goodwill store, and hang on the rack until a cyclist buys them. Most (?) of the proceeds would be donated.

Nachoman has the best idea, if that can be worked out, though.

I won't think to look in a Goodwill store for road cycling clothes.

If you don't get the used bike clothes, no one should!

This outfit takes donations & has 'bike thrift stores' to raise money for their work.
