bikes value?
hi all,
i was wanting to post my road bike fore sale on a few forums that will get a lot of traffic from roadies, as i usually spend most of my time selling on the mtb forums i thought id try this way. having registered and cannot seem to make a for sale listing i may as well ask for peoples opinions on its value.
Scott speedster s30 20 size medium think its 2011
With shimano pedals
Mavic shoes size 11
This bike has only been used for commuting and has only been used about 20 times in 2 years!
No damage, just tar splats on the rear section,
Full details can be found here
https://www.bikepedia.com/quickbike/I...&if=215716.jpg
i was wanting 360 all in but had no joy over the past week so lowered it to 300, i dont want to go lower, is this a fare price?
all help is appreciated
cheers

Bikes: one for everything
depending on you area, but in mine, that would have been gone in the 1st day. Keep it high, leave room for low ballers....there are many out there

List it at $425 and be patient. Don't settle for less than your $360. Once spring comes, it'll be snatched up by someone.

If it is in good to excellent condition according to the link I posted and if I plugged the right bike in you are pricing it low. Prob;lem is right now it is winter and no one looks for bikes right now for the most part. Come spring they will!

I think you have to upgrade to a paid membership to post ads here.
I agree that the price looks fine (if not a touch low). Season and location make a big difference.

If it were me, I would part it out. $300 is not a lot for that bike. It may be a little older, but the parts are still of some value (If in good condition) This would be my break down:
$250-Frame
$100- Wheels
$25-Bars
$20-seat post
$25-Saddle
$25-Pedals
$45-brake calipers
$15-$20- cassette
$70-Crankset
$15-stem
Total $590. -$60 for shipping most the parts (Wheels and frame would not be worth shipping. I'd save those for local craigslist. The other stuff, I use Slowtwitch.com and Paceline.com. Sometimes you need to wait a little longer, but I have also sold an entire parted out bike in 1 night.
I do this for friends on a weekly basis and have gotten a lot of money for the parts. You do have to factor in shipping

More often than not, you will get more out of a bike when parting it out. Sometimes you just have to be patient. IF you have the time to be patient, I would highly suggest parting it out.

Yes, this is usually true with 105 and higher. But might not be worth the effort on Tiagra and lower. Calipers and crankset won't go nearly that high as they aren't Shimano and other things (saddle, etc.) are stock/house brand stuff with little resale value. Frame price seems a bit optimistic as well...but you forgot the STI's and derailluers. I'd guess one could net $500, but it does take a little work. There's a lot less work involved in selling complete for ~$350.

Yes you about have to pay someone to take Tiagra for sure! Just stating the obvious on that one. Not that is is bad stuff all that much.......just is what the market dictates for sure.
I can't even get a Rival FD and RD sold and all together asking less than $60 or so for the two total! So there you go........some model componetry just has no resale value or much if any.
I say if you are not needing money then wait until around March when it starts to warm just a tad to sell the bike. Just my 2 cents.

The general public is what I meant. Not folks that resale them for a side business. Just a note on that and not saying anything against Long Tom. A dude wanted to buy my Aqua I had who does just this as a side business and wanted to give me $500 for the Aqua and I held out another few weeks and got $800 for it. So it does pay to be patient.

If the OP's bike showed up near me @ $300 , it would have been in my garage yesterday ! I would definately hold out for the $360 (or more) .

I tried to sell a basic carbon fiber Giant road bike this time last year. Even in Los Angles it took a couple months to get it sold. The fair weather cyclists have packed it in for the season
