Second, I had a blood clot in my right lung last year and was in the hospital for a week and a half. I couldn't even think about riding a bike. You have a lifetime badass card.
Thank you. At my age, being called a badass is the best compliment ever. Blood clots are seriously painful though. Ouch.Originally Posted by kv501

We're meeting at the Flying Goat in Healdsburg on Center Street at 8:30 a.m. It's a pretty simple route, mostly rollers because we wanted to get a bunch of folks to join us for at least some of it -- and give me a chance to finish near the front (never gonna happen ha). Here's the link to it. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/4024709Originally Posted by kreeess
Congrats on getting back on the saddle, I myself recently started riding again and also what time and where are you guys riding? Im doing a 40mile-ish ride on Saturday, but I might be interested in your ride also on Sunday.
Hope you can make it. Hope the rain clears up like the weatherman says it will.

Well, I did it. Freaking amazing. I had such a great time. I got stronger as we went. I fear I'm coming down with a cold and was a bit congested, but I still climbed every hill without too much trouble. I think the last 20 miles was the most fun for me -- there's a few roller type of climbs that showed me how far I've grown as a cyclist. I feel pretty good right now, especially after that post-ride Guiness! Total 56 miles though my phone ran out of juice at the end so I only got Strava to record the first 54. I love this sport so much. Twenty riders showed up for the ride and 7 of us did the whole loop (others had to drop out for work obligations or because it was too much for them). Thanks for all your advice. It helped. I never felt like I bonked -- just a slight bit of strain in the thighs on those last 10 miles. Still, I feel great right now. Yeah, like I said, I love this sport. And by the way, we could not have asked for a better day. It was cold and wet at the start but the weather cleared and it was a beautiful, temperate day in wine country.

I too had a great ride today on the other coast. You think you did well today? Just wait. Keep riding and working out. You have no idea what you are capable of. You may end up one of the fastest riders in your group.
Each half century builds confidence and you will know what pace you can ride. Riding in a pace line you can fly. Next you will come back and announce you did a century. I expect to see that this year...come back and tell us about it. Good Diet...a bit of cross training off the bike and a lot of riding will transform you from where you are now..
All the best.

Thanks. It truly was epic. I'm feeling like a million bucks right now. I'm tired as hell from the effort but I can't sleep -- just so happy for the accomplishment. I guess it really is the little things that count.

So, should I go out on a ride today of take a day of rest? Was thinking of a 15-20 mile easy ride. Nothing too challenging. My legs feel good if a tiny bit sore but other than the fact I'm up at 4;30 a.m., I feel great.

Congrats on the ride, and yes, go for an easy ride today. It'll feel good.
My longest ride to date was 141 miles, and I was also surprised that I felt good the next day. I went out and did an easy 27 miles and was glad I did.

Thanks for this. I'm totally in. I've been working three days a week with a trainer for 6 weeks and my progress on the bike has grown by leaps and bounds. Every ride practically I see some improvement on Strava. I'm thinking of switching to 4 days a week, but whatever, I'm committed. And yeah I am inked for my first century on May 4. The next question for me and my one lung is how high can I climb? I've tried to find research on althetes with one lung or lung challenges but haven't seen much. I'd like to push myself and see and some data/info would be useful. Guess I'm gonna find out one way or another. :-)Originally Posted by Campag4life
