Careful OP, don't hurt those ribs laughing.

9 broken ribs, burst appendix, broken scapula, broken fibula, and a collapsed lung. I'm still in the hospital, I can't tell you how the bike made out.
I don't have many details of the impact, but the dually pickup towing mirror is what hit me while riding in the bike lane. The driver and other witnesses assisted until the paramedics arrived.
Lots of pain, but the doctors all expect a full recovery.

Don't know what to say either, I've never been hit by such a large vehicle. Sorry to hear how injured you became, but thankfully are alive. Good luck. Sucks you were in the bike lane and driver had no excuse or reason to be driving so close to you.

Oof, that sucks. Glad to hear that the driver stuck around and assisted. When I got hit the driver tried to take off... of course, I was up and walking around.

Sorry to hear, especially that you were mirrored while in the bike lane. Seems like there's been so many crashes lately. Hope you don't need a chest tube for the collapsed lung, since I've heard they can be pretty painful. I dodged the bullet on that one in my recent crash. The trauma doc gave me the choice and I opted to get out of the hospital asap and heal at home. Five days in the hospital was long enough. Be sure to use the incentive respirometer every hour as instructed.
My injuries included broken clavicle, five broken ribs, punctured lung, and broken scapula. No surgery needed. The first few weeks were rough, but it got much better after that. Was back on the trainer at week 5, out of town on week 6, then road about 200 easy miles on week 7. I'm still not back up to speed, but getting there slowly. Hope recovery goes well for you. I know it sucks for now, but it will get much easier in a few weeks. Hope your recovery goes well. You'll come back strong.

I am sorry for the accident man, many blessing to a speedy recovery. I look at it this way, bikes can be replaced, not people.

Sorry to hear about that. I hope you heal up well and fast. Oh and take that inattentive driver for all you can. they deserve it. I got lucky when I got hit from behind last year. only bruises and grazes. I don't have any sympathy for inattentive/incompent drives as a result.

Get well soon. It must have been a real shock to be taken out that way. At least the driver helped you out and waited. It was certainly the right thing to do.

Bikes: Surly LHTD with a YAK trailer. I may have to ditch the trailer and go to panniers but I'll give it a try and see what happens.

Yeah, failure to drop a load once in awhile can put a real crimp in a guy's style even WITHOUT a serious accident. Hang tough Bo, we're all pull'n for ya.

Dream car.... new house.... he's got 6 figures coming IF the driver is well insured. But the driver might have one of those minimum policies.
I bought my dream bike- I dream fairly modestly, lol- with part of my settlement. It made dropping $3500 on a bike painless, especially since I'd already determined that cycling was awesome therapy for my (brain) injury.

That is why it is important to get uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage, with the same kind of limits you have on your own liability policy.

The important thing is that you're alive and well enough to be able to post and tell us what happened. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

God Speed for a speedy recovery. Broken ribs are a *****, I only had five breaks but the lung didn't puncture, nine..I can only imagine. Feel well soon and my advice (not being funny) take the pain meds when you need them.
